I need the funds for a different project. Just asking opinion which to get rid of at a commision of 20% at local dealer, Delray Shooting Center, Florida. I am not allowed FTF due to employment. I have the two following and I do not carry a revolver so that basis is not a point. Both are S&W's
#1- 19-4 Blue never fired 6 inch barrel, wood grips, presentation box (wood) LAPD stamped, coin, key,
#2- 66-4 nickel, 2 inch, original box rubber grips, fired 6 rounds.
Which do you think would sell quicker? Which would hold a better value in future?

I would post them both in the classified section and see which goes first. I would try selling them before giving the gun shop 20%.

IMHO, #1 would hold better value in future and #2 would sell quicker. If I'm right, it's a no brainer.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but the Model 66 was made out of stainless steel, therefore it would not be nickel plated. Now it could be a nickel plated Model 19, but not a Model 66. By the way, I think the LAPD Model 19 might be worth more with the right buyer/collector (I'm thinking online auction here), while the shorter barrelled Model 19/66 would probably sell quicker right now.

this is easy, since you don't shoot either of these i take it you have them for investment reasons the new in box never fired will get you more and the other will sell faster anyway so get rid of number 2. And I would sell in on my own you don't need a FFL to do that why give 20% to the store?

Both are really good weapons~! I own a Smith & Wesson 2.5" model 66-4
that I gave $225 for 'bout two year's ago; and yesterday (10-18--08) I
picked up very nice 6" Smith & Wesson blued, model 19-5 with target
grips for $200~! ;) So, I say don't get shed of either one; unless of
course you desperately need the money. :(

Thanks for the thoughtful replies. Trying to figure out a way to keep both, but truly I am not a collector and taking a line from a Metallica song (don't know where they plagered it from) "The less I have the more I gain".

The 66-4 is Stainless, my error, feels great, but I have a 340PD for carry, and Glock 27. My service gun is a Glock 23, and I still have two NYPD revolvers from my time there.

Money is an issue this month, and the problem with consignment is even if they sell fairly quick it's still two weeks (roughly) before the store cuts me the check. By that time I am either sorry I sold something or found another way to pay for another project.

After reading what I wrote it seems I am really undecided, and will probably just hold off a day or two and make a good judgement decision.

What ever you decide to sell, I would do it online like at gunbroker.com or auctionarms.com why pay them 20% when you can do it yourself. It still will go to an FFL so you wont have to worry about it being in your name.

There is NO REASON to give a gun shop 20% to sell your guns! Sell them online or locally and then have the FFL do the transfer. The transfer fees are normally paid by the buyer. If you sell a gun for $500 you keep the $500 instead of giving the shot $100.

Actually, why not list your revolvers on this site's "for sale" forum? You will get the price you are looking for and someone here will get a nice revolver too.
