is it ok to load a lee 200g conical bullet into a 45 long colt case with black powder lube but using smokeless powder... this is for a converted 1858 Remington 44 cap and ball revolver. i want to reload and i need to know if i need a new mold or if the one i have is ok.

Probably would work as long as you didn't push velocities too high. Given the gun I think that the only powder I'd use would be Trail Boss which is really bulky and designed so that double charges in cartridges like the .38 Spl, .44 Russian and .44 Spl, and .45 Colt will run over the top of the case. Dense powders allowing double charges could leave you with a wrecked gun or worse. Trail Boss produces a little smoke, but burns completely with 250 gr bullets in my 5 1/2" .45 Colt. Decent accuracy too.

do you think that it would be better then to go ahead and put a lee 255g flat nose .45 mold in my reloading supplies order too?
