What should the outside diameter of the case be after sizing? Mine are .470 and that seems to small.
Thanks,
Shayn

I believe SAAMI spec is .480" on both the .45 Colt and .460 S&W.
However, I have seen references to it being .478".
What kind of dies are you using?

My 460 S&W die is RCBS and the case was .469 with it. So I tried my Hornady 454 Casull die and it was .470

Well, it stands to reason they want as much case neck tension as they can get with the hard kicking .460 to keep the bullets from pulling under recoil.
I would think between RCBS & Hornady, they would know what they are doing.
Unless you get a "reverse bottleneck" look when you seat the bullets?

My RCBS .460 dies size my cases @ .472. Hornady and Speer both show case size to be .478. I have shot hundreds of my reloads outta my .460 with no problems.......

That is what made me ask. Here is a picture. The one in the middle.

You might call RCBS Customer Service at 1-800-533-5000 and see what they have to say about it.

Aaaah, the old "goose swallowed an egg". Very common with straightwall cases. I can save you a call to RCBS. Don't size the case all the way to the bottom. Honestly, it's that simple. Size it far enough to give you proper tension on the bullet and be done with it.

That might be fine if all his expanded cases will fit in all 6 chambers on his gun.
I would imagine the .460 expands cases to the fullest extent possible at the pressures it runs.

I'm shooting them out of an Encore rifle.

Well why didn't you say so! :D
All you probably need to do for a single-shot is neck size down to the bullet base like Strongbad said.
Don't size the whole case if you can get them back in the chamber.

I should have mentioned that the practice also works on my 500 S&W X-Frame, which runs nearly the pressure that the 460 runs... not quite... but close. :) S&W was kind enough to machine them to a level of precision which does not cause me an issue. :)
