the video is of a man taking action against a robber.

i'm pretty sure what he did was legal, but look at the surroundings/situation.
he drew and aimed from behind a woman, and fired very near/at the woman with child.

did he act too brash? it seemed like a much less dangerous situation until he acted.

i'm all for carrying a weapon (i do) and using it when appropriate... was this appropriate in your opinions?

I wouldn't know. I wasn't there and I really have no idea of the total situation...I would hope that I would and be able to hit as he did...Without hitting the kid and mother...

This video has been discussed multiple times in the past, and the guy who was involved has explained the incident himself - he's a member over on concealedcarry.com, if I remember correctly. Bottom line I think was that yes, he did use the co-worker to cover himself while drawing, but the mother and child were not in the line of fire.

A search either here or over on the concealed carry forum should bring up the relevant threads.

I remember also reading about this, and the individuals comments, and what kingpin said sounds about right. He was exonerated of any charges. I also believe that he is an NRA instructor IIRC.

cool, thanks.

it made sense to draw from behind the lady, but the rest seemed a little iffy to me.

next up, trying to create an original thread for once..... hmmm

The kid actually looked pretty calm.

He also said the lady with the kid was absolutely fine with the situation and wasn't put out at all at him for what he did and said she was glad he shot the scumbag.

Um, how 'bout the fact that he was firing on the BG as he's running away?

I understand the first shot(s), but when the BG is running for the exit, that's when he has to swing near the mother and child.

IMO, he shouldn't have kept shooting.

If the BG still has his weapon, is he "running away" or "maneuvering for position"?

If you're still armed, I'm still shooting, regardless of which direction you are facing.

This incident made it to many shows and what not. no charges were ever filed against the clerk so you can presume he did not do anything out of the ordinary.

You are in a small room with other people.. of course you are going to shoot close to them.

Also, it was private property. Way different if it were in the street.....

+1. I can understand the point of view that by running away he's finished the fight, but like Mgkdrgn said - if he's still got a gun and is still in range to do damage to me, he's still in the fight. Shoot to stop the threat.

I agree it was the right choice to draw from behind the lady, although *not judging his decision from an armchair* I don't know if I would have fired. Maybe brandished it to ward off the assailent?

The angle of the camera has an effect on what we are seeing. It looks close but he must have had at least 19 inches between the kid and line of fire. He did the right thing -

Me, I would have chased the SOB out the DOOR.
