Mousegun discussion

I have been considering a compact .22 or .25 auto just for the hell of it. Does anyone have any input? I have little experience with guns in these smaller calibers.

The Walther is a good gun. Look at the Beretta 21 too.
Remember, most of these semi-auto guns will only shoot reliably if you use hi-velocity ammo. You have more choices with one of the snubbie revolvers.
Taurus makes a 2 inch barreled model 94 that has a 9 shot cylinder. It has a really stiff double action pull though.

I have a 317 pre-lock for sale. It has only had one box of ammo shot through it. Still have the box. $500.00 + $20.00 shipping. If interested pm me. PS. this is an 8 shot with a nice action and very attractive boot grips, 2" bbl.

Beretta 950 or a baby Colt for the original mouse guns, then there are the NAA mini's.

If it is to have any pretensions to being a defence gun, the 25 ACP will provide more reliable ignition. Stopping power, what little there is of it, is pretty much a toss up.
On the other hand, if it's a just for fun gun, the ignition reliability won't matter but the lower cost of 22 LR rimfire ammo probably will matter.
(Rimfire ammo sometimes has the priming compound unevenly spread around the rim leading to misfires. Some varieties are more noted for this than others.)

As mouseguns go the Keltec P32 has pretty proven itself a solid performer. I carried one for years and it was a great gun. I sold it to get a Ruger LCP for a bit better power and I'm very please with it too. Either is much better than a .25 or .22.

Not exactly a bug in size; Buds Gun shop has had a CZ70 32acp for sale for quite a while on the used list- priced at $159.00 I think...

A couple of years back, I finally found a LNIB Astra Cub in .22Short. I always marveled at the attention to detail that went into these miniaturized guns.

.25 ACP is generally more reliable as it's a centerfire round, but I have never experienced a FTF with any CCI rimfire ammunition. I would opt for a .22 mag over the .25 ACP, both for power and cost.

Seecamp LWS 32. One of the best purchases I ever made and reliability has been proven. The design itself is over 20yrs old.

I just got a Beretta 21A in 22LR. I think it would be a great little mouse gun. It's easy to shoot accurately up to 10-15 yards, but is best at 5-7 yards, 3"-4" groups are pretty easy, fast or slow firing.
I had feed issue with a lot of different 22 ammo, but it seem to like the CCI Stinger's, with little or no problem so far.
I really enjoy shooting it at the range, and after warming up with it, shooting my bigger guns are so much easier, so I been saving money too with the Beretta by using less big gun ammo, and more 22 ammo.
TBS, I wouldn't get a 25acp.

Look into the Taurus PT-25. Wife carries this and it has been reliable at the range for 300+ rounds.

Hello, I have a couple of the so called, "mouse-guns" a Kel-Tec P3AT .380, a North American Arms Gardian .32 ACP and a Beretta Mod. 20, 25 ACP Cal. and have to say that the Beretta shoots the best. As in its more accurate and easy to hold on to while dumping 9 rounds as fast as the trigger can be pulled. That is not to say it would be my first choice to have in a gun-fight or for Concealed carry as I prefer something with a little more punch. LM

Harold Mayo, I know the feeling. Just for the heck of it, yesterday I bought a Firestorm FS22. Here are two of my favorite little .22lrs along with my PPK/S, (which I'd love to have in a .22lr). Both of these little guys, a Walther TPH and a American Arms PX22 also come in .25acp. One of the guns I'm always on the lookout for is a nice Walther PP in .22lr. One day I'll find a good Beretta 87 just waiting to be taken home. Good luck in your hunt for a small, fun pistol

I had the Iver Johnson version of the American Arms PX22. Great little .22 that never jammed or had any sort of reliability issues. And for one of the nicest .22 plinkers ever made, try adding a Beretta Model 70S to your collection.

"Just for the hell of it" about sums it up IMHO : the only one I own is a CZ 92 DAO .25 ACP.: no sights, dreadful trigger, amazingly expensive to feed (who reloads .25 ACP ?)
can't hit anything with it beyond 5 yards or so (blame myself, not the gun)
And still I have another of "that kind" of gun on my wish list : a "Baby" Browning, just to sort of complete the trinity, along with my 9mm HP and my .32 ACP M 1910.

My old man likes his phoenix arms .22 (or is it a .25). I haven't shot it or gotten to play with it yet. Maybe when I am home for Christmas

I bought this Raven way back in the seventies and never fired it until a couple of months ago. Raven has such a bad reputation for unreliability. I found that the reputation was well deserved! While cursing it at the range a ahooter next to me told me that the gun needed a new recoil spring, a new magazine and a damn good Dremeling. After all these changes were put in place the little .25 shoots quite well. No ftf or ftl. No stovepiping. At 7 yards it is on target and dependable. After I fire a few hundred rounds it may become my small carry gun.

The Beretta Jetfire is a reasonable choice. The German-made Walther TP and TPH models also are superb firearms and worthy of consideration, if you don't mind the smallish caliber. Fans of "CSI" will note that the Warrick Brown character, killed off this season by the undersheriff, was done in with a Beretta Jetfire.

I do, and let me tell ya, it'll test your patience. I'd rather load my .17 Rem.

I've played with the mouse guns a little over the years and seem to b ein that frame of mind again as I'm looking at four of them that I've gotten recently. I've got the NAA mini's in both .22lr and magnum as well as a Kel-Tec P32 and an LCP.
Having shot all but the NAA magnum, I like the Smaller NAA and the P32 for carry and the LCP for power. The LCP is pretty snappy but is still easy enough to shoot well. The little NAA is hard to manipulate due to size but a dream to slip in a pocket. The P32 is probably the easiest to get along with in both carry and shootability. I thought the NAA magnum would carry as well as the little one and be easier to shoot, but the size makes the P32 carry better and have a lot more firepower.
I gave up on .25acp's a while back, the .32 and .380 beats the crap out of it and the guns can be the same size.

I've got Browning and Beretta 21's in .25, fine little guns. The Colts are nice too. I often have one of these in a pocket holster almost all the time and even in jeans you don't even notice they are there.

Don't base the gun on ammo cost, filling those stupid little magazines gets old real quick. It's impossible to go through more than ~75 rounds before saying 'screw it' and grabbing a different gun at the range :o.
Go for something in .32 or .25.

I have a NAA in 22 mag, Seecamp 32, Keltec P32, and Keltec P3AT-380. I like them all and carry them all on occasion.
Here in central Texas it is just easier to carry one of these mouse guns than a full size in the hot summer. I most often carry the P3AT, just because I feel safer with the larger 380 and I like the light weight. My second choice is most often the NAA 22 mag.
Most of my friends with a CHL also favor the P3AT. I can think of 6 close friends with a P3AT, everyone else carries full size pistols.

I have sterling .25 auto I bought as my first hand gun purchase and my Dad swears by his Raven .25. I have a couple bigger pistols but there are still times the sterling is just right to carry and I cant dare to part with it,and it has never jammed on me,

The Beretta 21 Bobcat is really nice in a .22. I've shot one several times and was very surprised how accurate it was for such a short barrel pistol.
I own a Kel-Tec P-32 and like it too. It's also accurate with a little practice. (10 yards out)

My Raven was reliable right out of the box. It is very accurate out to 35'. Not sure why it's so accurate with those tiny sights but it is!

I bought my Jennings .22LR back in around 1987. It's surprisingly accurate out to around five yards or so.. don't remember testing it much beyond that. CCI ammo (standard or Stinger) seems to be reliable in it. It's not my primary carry firearm by any means; that duty usually falls to either of my .380 pistols, or my .38 snub. HD duty goes to the .357 and the 20 gauge. But, it does get carried when the South Florida weather dictates minimal concealment options, though I do not carry it with a round in the chamber.

I have 3 Berettas 2 950's and 1 model 20 I also have a Bauer and a new in box FIE Titan .
I consider the Berettas the best in 25 and the old 950 better than the DA /SA models
I almost for got I have a POS Taurus PT-22 that went back to factory 1st day. Still not relieable no matter what brand.

I have a KelTec P32 that I carry on occasion. Nice light compact little thing that easily slides into and out of a jeans pocket. And as was previously mentioned, with a bout 7 months of hot weather per year in Texas, that's a definite consideration. The little 32ACP round is kind of anemic, but I feel like it'd suffice in any situation I'm ever likely to encounter.

My dad always said he had a little .32 auto somewhere, but when he passed away, we found boxes of ammo from the 1930's, but not the gun. We're still looking. I think it would be fun to have a 'mouse gun' for popping paper targets down in the back pasture, but would consider it a carry gun only if I couldn't put my hands on a long, sharp stick. I know of nobody who would stand and allow the delivery of a couple of aimed shots, so I suppose a small caliber has its merits in that context.

I have a Kel Tec P32, a NAA mini 22LR/.22 mag Combo. I also have a Colt Pony Pocketlite .380 and a Smith 432PD which is a 6 shot J frame in.32H&R magnum.

Although the following may not be considered true mouseguns, they certainly merit consideration. Those three are the Walther PPK, the Bersa Thunder and the SIG P232. Chambered for the .380 cartridge, all the above should provide you with reliable service.

... it can be a right nasty little handgun round. My daily carry is an NAA Black Widow in 22 Mag. Easy to pocket, natural point, and hits what you aim at. It's also LOUD! Will give 12+ inches of penetration in ballistic gel, even from a short revolver.

I don't care about the ballistic performance of the mouse gun.
You use the 8 shot .22 or .25 to keep the bad guys head down while you move to a more defensible position and then take him out with the .38, 9mm. .40, .45 etc.....
