I've only had my 1858 Remington for a month or so and I'm now making my own wads from duro-felt. I am also making my own lube for the wads. I bought two boxes of balls (.454's and .457's) to see which she liked best. Well the .457's shot great but at about $10.00 a box I decided I needed to make my own.

I was already thinking of starting to cast my own bullits for my 45 acp and 44 mag. Started accumulating stuff about a month ago and this past Saturday I made my own using my turkey fryer. Check out the pics. I'm happier than a damn pig in mud!! :D

Got plenty of lead for more as well as 50 more lbs of ingots on the way!

Also, got a used mold to make 450 200 grain conicals.

Haven't got to shoot any yet but hope to soon!

. . . a great relaxation stimulus for me.

You said it! I cast for 3 hours and it seemed like 30 minutes. Sure was fun!

Now all you need is a TapOCap to make caps and you're all set.

Yes you clearly have caught an illness, which there isnít any cure for.

To help you cope with this debilitating condition, I would prescribe more casting, and more shooting followed by more casting and more shooting recurring until the end of your natural life.

I like the look of that ladle, is it a Rowell bottom pour?

If yes, how'd you like it as I've been thinking about getting one for a while.

Yes, it's a Rowell #1 with regular handle. I've only used it once but I really like it. I got at The Antimony Man (http://www.theantimonyman.com/price.htm)for $23.00 plus shipping!

Amazing how casting bullets converts lead from raw material to precious metals.

Quickdraw, Ya' Know I'm retiring in five weeks (well five weeks one day and the rest of today) and have been wondering what to do with myself. This sounds like a great way to use my time and look at all the money I'd save(at least after the initial investments, I'm practicing my explanations to the wife) it would be like going out and finding another job. Of course to make it really pay off I might have to buy a few more BP revolvers but that would be like getting a raise. Right? anyway I am definately looking into casting my own balls making my own wads and how about making your own powder? Hmmm sounds like fun thanks for the suggestions and can I give the wife your address if she has any questions? Seriously thanks for the thread sounds like a lot of fun. Unfortunatly your pics didn't come out for me but I'd love to see your "stuff"

Once you start casting your bp guns become tools, required to proof the results of the casting.

Really.

Hey dont limit yourself to "black Powder" molds, I found Lee 45ACP molded bullets to be extreamly accurate out'a my 58 Remington.

"I make my own using my turkey fryer."

So more importantly, how do they taste?
