1973, Colt AR-15, Mod. SP1, ser. SP30XXX. I saw my first AR in the late 60's at Serviceman's Gun Shop on Duval Street in Key West. It was love at first sight. I bought mine right after I turned 18, cost me $198.00 :what: plus tax, around 3% back then, got it for cost from a friend who worked at Woolco. I built a few since but SP1 is a "till death do us part"
What's your EBR/AR story?

Mine was in 1986. It was an Olympic CAR-15 clone. Despite what everyone knows about Olympic, it ran like a charm.

I was 14.5 years old. My father let me put it on lay-away at a local shop and I saved up for it until I bought it. It was also the first gun I bought with my own money. Dad bought me firearms on occasion, but I was always responsible for my own EBRs.

I sold it the next year in order to fund the HK-91 I got when I was 15.

My love affair with EBRs is long indeed. I'm 37 now.

EBR = Enhanced Battle Rifle and it came into being in the year 2000.

My Scout Squad was installed into a SAGE stock and became an EBR in 2004.

Got my first AR when I turned 18, it was a Colt Lightweight Sporter in 7.62x39. It was my birthday present to myself and the first rifle that I actually bought myself at a gun shop. I had been a gun owner since I was ten but the guns were all bought by my dad for me. I think I paid around $850 for it and that was back in the late 90's.

Since my first AR over a decade ago I've probably owned well over twenty EBR's since then, currently I have seven in my collection.

In the process of building my first. It's a 653 clone. M16A1 CH-forge code upper, DPMS A1 lower, 16" Bushmaster super lightweight barrel, Colt bolt carrier + chrome Colt bolt. The only thing holding me back from completion is getting the darned upper refinished.

Picked up a WASR-10 just after Christmas ('05) in 2006. Was the typical WASR, all wood up front and a synthetic side folder. That summer for my birthday I got all synthetic furniture for it but this time a full stock, as well as an Ultimak rail...thus transforming into an EBR.
It now has an Aimpoint mounted.

I'm still waiting for the EBR Fairy to show up and put one under my pillow because I can't bring myself to spend money that would be better spent on old junky Colts and Winchesters.

Depends. Is a wooden AK (or a wooden SKS) an "EBR"? Is a camo furniture AR15 an "EBR"? If no and no, then last week at age 39, with the Robinson XCR.

My first EBR was a WASR. Bought it from a gunshow about 5 years ago. Then sold it to upgrade to an AR about 2 years ago.

I bought my first AR/EBR last year at a gun show, its M4LE by CMMG. I love it! I can't believe I didn't buy one sooner. I've owned AKs and SKSs before but never an AR. I've had very few problems with it.

2004, when on a whim I bought an Imbel FAL parts kit for $125, figuring they probably wouldn't get any cheaper. Over the next year I accumulated compliance parts as funds permitted, then in 2005 my wife said 'you can have that $179 Imbel receiver.'

:D

I even lucked out - when I headspaced the rifle, the shoulder size I needed happened to be the one that came in the parts kit. :neener: The only thing it fails to feed are round-nose soft points, everything else feeds slicker than owl snot on ice.

Reckon it was 1994 or 1995 ( a year or so). The rifle was a MAK-90 which I still own.
It's got the thumbhole stock, so it was a post-ban.

My Uncle Sugar loaned me one from '78 to '82. In 1983 I bought an HK 91 as my first personally owned EBR. There have been quite a few that have come and gone since then. I still have a few around here somewhere...

Well my Dad & Brother were military men as I am now so I was always exposed to whatever the US military had in the arsenal. My brother had a AR bought in 1977 and I have pics from 1977 with me as a 3 year old holding it. When i joined the army I figured I would do something with weapons repair. So I enlisted as a 45B. Since then I have built so many AR's/M16's that I honestly can not count. Ofcourse all of mineare Frankenguns to include my AK's.

My first one was free and I got it in 1965, an M-14. I got several rifles for free between 1965 and 1970 come to think about it, mostly M-14's and M-16's.

When I turned 18 and could legally buy rifles my first purchase was a preban Colt Lightweight Sporter chambered in 7.62x39. That was back in 1997 and I paid $900 for it.

I always wanted one, but there were always other things higher on the priority list.
When Obamalama won the election, It moved to the top of the list.
I turned to Wifey while watching the news the morning after Election Day, and told her I'd have an AR in the vault before the end of the month.

Nov 8, 2008, there's a MP15T sitting there.

Last April I bought an M&P15A and I swore that after I bought this, I wouldnt want any more ARs...and I was wrong. Buying guns is like doing crack, you cant stop unless you run out of money to fund your addiction...and I ran out of money:(
