i have an old krupp-essen flusstahl double barrel 12 ga that was passed down to me from my grand parents. i did an online search, and took it to cabelas to see what they knew about it, but we both turned up little to no useful information. other writings on it are : J.L. Galef, new york, highest quality, on the rib it says Imman Meffert suhl. germany, apparently the gunsmith. i really want to know what this gun is worth, or if others have a similar shotgun. this one still retains origional finish on the barrel, but also has some water damage on the side of the right barrel. it is the deul trigger model, and has little to no rust. barrels are almost mint condition, just a little dirty. cabelas appraiser said i should carefully refinish the stock with linseed oil, which i am currently working on. grand-pop said that when he had a smith work on it, he had lots of offers to buy it, and also said that it is as tight now as the day it left the shop. i will try to get pics soon. ANY HELP ON WHAT THIS MIGHT BE WORTH WOULD BE GREAT! thanks guys,
-kurt

Any refinishing could cut the value significantly. I would wait before doing anything.
Here is another guy with a similar shotgun, and the information he received was interesting.

Imman. (Immanuel) Meffert was the manufacturer; Galef the importer. Rare only because it has Galef's name on it - does not add value. Excellent quality maker, but no one can give an idea of value without several (many) good pictures. Both sides of action, top of barrels, muzzles, inside the action - face, water table, etc.
Meffert made many different models of shotguns, drillings and rifles - single, double and bolt action and was in business until fairly recently. The value of the gun will be largely dependent on which grade and model of gun it was, and when it was made. p.s. the family is pretty much my favorite German gun-maker, FWIW...

Looks like a nice gun, but a pretty basic grade by the looks. Also seems to have some issues with the stock fit around the action (shrinkage?). I'd still recommend contacting the GGCA (German Gun Collector's Association) via the link in my first post.

That smaller action screw on the bottom looks suspect - replacement is my guess; the slot is way too big and the color is off. My guess - in MHOO - my humble opinion, only - is in the $600-$800 range...

I see you're in Colorado...where at? If you can, take it by M.W. Reynolds, on Broadway in Englewood. They deal in VERY high-end firearms, and could probably tell you something about it. You'll wet your undies though, at some of the guns and prices they have in there. This is a rich man's candy store. http://www.mwreynolds.com/HTML/contact.html
