Firing riffled slugs in modified barrel

Hi,
I have an old model European shotgun (Robust-Saint-Etienne, rarely used, in very good condition) with 2 triggers and barrels indicating:
- Choke which correspond I think to Full Choke
- Demi-choke which correspond I think to Modified
I know that everyone recommends firing riffled slugs through cylinder or improved cylinder chokes.
Will it be dangerous to fire a riffled slug in the demi-choke (modified) barrel?
Thanks,
S.

The best advice I can give on this is to cut one of the slugs out of the live ammo and simply pass it down through the barrel. If there is much resistance, I'd say don't do it (if you are concerned about the shotgun). Modern Rifled Slugs are made soft enough so that they can size down if need be. I tend not to fire them through a full choke though, but as long as the slug fits through the choke with not much effort, I'd say that it would be safe.
I've done this with a few different brands of slugs and put them through my Invector Plus modified choke with adequate results.

I recently searched this topic. There are a couple of long threads regarding this. I came to the conclusion that it won't be the most accurate combo but will work. You may want to read them yourself though.

Brownells sells a cute $7 gismo that lets you check the actual choke of any bore. They're well worth the cost.

I’m curious what do you expect to happen with a slug going thru mod or full choke? Isn’t lead softer than steel?

Gas operated semiautos may not like the increase in pressure dwell time AT ALL, and I'd certainly worry about older barrels unraveling themselves.

You can shoot slugs with any choke including full choke in a modern shotgun. An old European shotgun I would not.

My personal doctrine is anything tighter than I.C. is a no-no for slugs. YMMV.
