Hi,

Thinking of getting the Mossberg 500A 28VR/24FR Deer Combo. Opinions? I have a Rem 870 Express with a 28 VR barrel, but it's probably better just to buy the Mossberg combo since the price of a 24 FR 870 barrel is almost the same price.

Anyways, with a Fully Rifled Barrel, am I limited to shooting only Sabot slugs? Or can I shoot Foster slugs as well?

If you want to shoot rifled slugs, why not just get a smoothbore slug barrel? :confused:

Shoot whatever slugs you wish, whether rifled or not. The rifled slugs do not really spin from a smoothbore as well as you might be led to believe. Logic would lead one to believe that the twist of the slug should be the same direction as that of the barrel, but not necessarily. Try all you can get hold of and stick with the one that shoots most accurately.

You can shoot the rifled slugs from a fully rifled barrel. It will really lead up the barrel and one day you will be in for a heck of a cleaning job.
A friend of mine spent several hundred dollars on premium sabots for his fully rifled Remington 870 and could not get good groups with any of them. He tried the rifled slugs and got the best accuracy at a much cheaper price.

ive heard the same story about the slugs grouping different,

you really need to find the right load,

in general I believe it is not recommended to shoot foster slugs in rifled barrels but ive heard enough of people doing it that it is probably just another ploy to get people to pay up for sabots

I'd stick to a smooth bore, and get good with it, while using foster (rifled) slugs. The sabots aren't cheap, about $2 a piece. Then, you need a rifled shotgun, or a rifled barrel to take advantage of them. I wish they made copper-coated fosters, ooh, or even copper-coated poly-tipped. That'd be sweet.

To answer your question, you should only shoot sabots from a rifled barrel. Plain and simple.
