From the S&W Forum
Somo friend of a N.C. Dealer who is visiting S&W's plant
got the word on new 2009 S&W Offerings:

Presumably in the "Classic" lline:
MOdel 17 K-22 17 6 inch
Model 18 4 inch also a .22 LR
Model 14 K-38
Model 57 4 and 6 inch
1911 9mm

Reintro/new chambering
-632 in 327 Fed Mag. w/ S&W power port"

and...
SW1911 in 9mm Luger.

That's all I know. we'll see what shows up at the
S.H.O.T. show in the spring.

Randall - I'll be in line for a Model 18

Not sure how keen I would be on a ported .327, particularly if it was short barreled.

I'd be happy of they just removed those stupid eyesore locks from their entire product line and included a separate padlock for those who elect to incarcerate their handguns.

Good point about the 632 - why the power port on a
cartridge like the .327 Fed Mag.?

About the Model 17 & 38 - I hope they do them
correctly with the Target Hammer and Target Trigger,
I said I'd be in line for a model 18 because that is the
first handgun I ever bought - shouldn't have sold it but
it was to a good friend. The 18 has the standard hammer
and trigger fwiw

Also good to see the 57 in both barrel lengths, when I see
a 29 or 57 with a 4" Bbl. I immediately think of Elmer Keith
and a good belt gun for an outdoorsman.

Now the 9mmx19 in the SW1911 - really lends itself to
the SW1911PD 4.25" Bbl. and Scandium frame. It may be
marked down for mag capacity, but great trigger and a very
controllable platform for the chambering.

I’d imagine the porting would provide great recoil reduction due to the high pressure of the .327, but I’d expect shooting it from retention would be a memorable experience for the same reason.

Any .327 is a good step and I'll buy one. Great round and we need to support it.

The Models 17 and 18 would be great news. I think they would be big sellers provided they don't have the lock.

I'll definitely be looking at their 9mm 1911. I hope they do a full-size all-steel Target model and a super thin Scandium 4.25".

I just bought a Model 17...but am up for a K-38 with 3Ts, as well as the 632.

Now, if only they will reissue the Model 16.... :-)

That’s a good point. I guess I’d buy a .327 632 too, even with the port.

Actually, I like the Powerport setup. The whole issue of what you do at contact range? Shove the gun in the opponent's belly and pull the trigger...you get to shoot him AND burn him simultaneously.

In 2009, if we're still allowed, I'll still be buying ANIB or other used Smiths that don't have a Hillary Hole. :scrutiny:
