Im just looking around for a new AR sling, and I have NO Idea what I want. I have a blackhawk single point sling, its fine and all, it just hangs a little low (Im 6ft and have it adjusted all the way up). I dont imagine it would be any good for anything becides just standing there, so Im looking for something a little more versatile, so what are you guys & girls using?

Thanks
Roadwild.

I have the single point sling as well, you are right great for standing around and puts the rifle in the right spot when going hands free but not much of a shooting aid. For my range work I use a GI web sling, same as the M1A or Garand sling. This is just to keep things consistent and provides good support. Bill

I have a VTAC padded 2 point. I dont know if there is a finer sling available. It offers carry options, retention, and shooting stability.

I got mine here:

I used a spectre gear 3point sling for years; since before they were spectre gear. It has it's ups and downs. Eventually, it was driving me nuts.

I put a single-point sling on my 3-gun rifle. As was mentioned, it's good for just standing around, but i wouldn't want to run with it handsfree. even with a groin protector, no good will come of that.

So, I recently acquired a blue force gear 2-point sling (I think that's the "Vickers" sling) and I'm still acclimating myself to the adjustments. So far it has solved 2 or 3 problems I had with 1 and 3-point slings, but created another.

I suspect I'll never find a perfect sling.

I have this and i love it. I had no idea what i was ordering based on the pic, but for 20 bucks i gave it a shot. Turns out its pretty decent 3-point.

GI issue black web sling. Most of the time in the military I didn't even carry with a sling at all on patrols or exercise.

I saw the VTAC's at a show, and just couldn't wrap my head around $40 for about $10 in webbing and buckles, so I built my own. Only difference i can see is mine is hand stiched, and only 1" web instead of the 1.25". I haven't had any luck finding the tightening buckle for sale, so I used one off of an old set of ALICE pack straps. I had all the parts lying around, and the stitching took me about a 1/2hour while I watched TV one night.

I use a Gear Sector 2 point sling. I highly recommend it.

If you can find a "team sling" they work great. I am currently using an M60 sling.

Try rockymountaintactical.net. Their service, quality, and speed is above and beyond any other manufacturer out there in my experience. Their link should be just a few posts above mine if I recall correctly.

Carried carbines and M16s in the USAF, a CAR-15 for a while for work, and currently an M4gery. In each case, I found the GI cotton web/nylon web sling perfectly workable. My default carry is the left shoulder inverted "African carry" which gives good control of the weapon, keeps muzzle down, and deploys fairly quickly when needed.

Have tried a couple of the gee-whiz two-pointers but the multiplicity of straps and buckles drives me nuts. Occasionally "less is more".

In any case, they are carrying slings, pure and simple, not shooting slings. And in some cases there is some point to leaving the sling off entirely.
