If black powder or black powder substitutes were available in a vast array of colors, including custom colors which you could order just like going to the paint store, which color of powder would you chose to buy?
Or would you still prefer the black?

Would you consider mixing them to obtain a multi-color coordinated load, or possibly layer the different colors into the bottom of the barrel like artists do with those bottles of colored sand art?

How about if the different colored powders could also be scented like candles or incense, would that appeal to anyone?
What would be a popular scent - maybe something to attract deer? :D

Maybe having them in different colors would make them identifiable by brand, and by f grade. Keep Goex black. I have read here, that mixing powders can be dangerous.

I think maybe you've been using some other kind of powder.

I'd like my powder to be Red, White & Blue.
For Hot, Really Hot, & Tame. :D

So if we could have colord powders, would they burn that color as well? It would be funny if you could shoot your gun and smoke out the other rifle shooters with a giant colored cloud of smoke....lol

You go ahead and work on your color combination "black powder". I've got my own project of trying to develop a bullet with two headlites and a horn that will mount into at least a 30 caliber cartidge. You would then be able to hunt without a scope or sites for deer because when they see it coming they will run right into it and go down with a head shot every time.

Thanks all! I knew that I would come back from attending a gunshow today and there would be some interesting remarks. ;)
I agree that the colored smoke would be a much better idea visually.
But I think that my favorite powder color would be RED, and if it could produce Red Smoke so much the better.
How about if it smelled like how those little red oval candies tasted named "Red Hots" which smelled like cinnammon?

I wonder what the yellow colored powder should smell like, bananas or lemon?

They should be called "Designer Powders".
And then next the manufacturers can start working on color coordinating the gun finishes like they do by anodizing Olympic air pistols and by decorating them with colored laminated wood like they do with custom Ruger 10/22's.
And then next we'll be shooting speckled & colored lead balls resembling little bird eggs...anyone? :D

Japanese in WWII had different color chemicals added to the anti-aircraft shells so that they could tell which ships guns were getting near the target. Each ship had its own color.

Can you imagine reinactors using colored smoke? A true rainbow coalition! :D

The Doc is out now.
