So I recently purchased a .357 magnum that I could use some help identifying. It is a double action Herter's revolver. German manufactured I believe in 1966. I love the gun, but the handle has a chip in it that looks like it is getting worse with use.

I would appreciate any help in determining any more info on this gun, and especially if anyone can point me in the right direction to purchase a wooden grip for it... if that's even possible, what with it not being manufactured anymore.

Well I'm afraid I have no pics, I know that doesn't help much : (.

I could however give a bit more info

and that the full inscription on the left side of the barrel reads "HERTER'S inc. WASECA/Minnesota"

I'm afraid I love guns, but know so little about them. Hope you or someone can help me.

Well perfectly understandable if no one can help... My info was at best lacking.
Not to mention I have no cam to get a pic up. Just have to hope a mind reader enters this thread to work their magic.

Should probably not put the full serial # online.

Yeah, and now that he's posted about owning a gun, they can trace his IP and break into his house, too. Hindsight, huh?

No, someone could use it against him.

As I said, nonsense. People post all the time about how posting serial numbers on the internet is bad ju-ju, but yet nobody is ever able to provide proof of such a thing ever causing a single problem for a gun owner.

When evidence is posted that supports the statement that posting serials is in some way dangerous, I'll be happy to eat my words. Until then, I call bull.

It may or may not have happened yet, but it's not worth the risk of getting falsely accused and going to jail.

And as for the grips, have you tried looking at Ajax grips?

Falsely accused of what? Owning a gun?

I'm honestly not seeing what the danger is.

New Gun Owner

I'm pretty sure J. P. Sauer and Sohn of what was then West Germany made Herter's single action revolvers for them. As to double action revolvers, I don't know; though Sauer also made a close copy of the S&W K frame, called the Medallion. If this is what your gun is, perhaps you could modify K frame stocks to fit it.

There is a Herters revolver, .357 MAG SA on GunsAmerica for $399. Bromleys gun shop. You might want to call them for info: 641-696-3375

You might want to check www.e-gunparts.com . They list the grips, but are sold out. They have a parts forum too.

I have a Springfield 1903 with the serial number 303308. Let's see how much trouble that gets me in. ;)

That said, I'm moving this to revolvers.
