Yep! Works pretty good. Used buffalo fat as well. It works but goes rancid pretty fast. Then the smell sort of makes you think twice about it being such a good idea.:barf: When shooting a lot, I generally usually use a "spit patch." I stick a patch in my mouth, measure and pore the powder, take the patch and set the RB, then ram it home, cap/prime then shoot. Start over. That habit is hard to break when using it regularly. I use pre lubed patches when hunting. Once, I grabbed a buffalo fat patch and automatically stuck in in my mouth :what: Didn't take long to get the idea I made a mistake.

You can Google "rendering tallow", follow Gatofeo's advice on Page 2 of this thread ( http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=212347&highlight=rendering ), or visit this website:

I did something very similar with a bunch of bacon grease earlier this year. I started to incorporate it into my BPCR bullet lube mix with beeswax.

If you're using an animal fat for lube, you don't want salt in it, and you don't want it going rancid, so be methodical and cautious.

I really like the idea of using the same thing that the frontiersman used, and it works great. But I buy mine already made up. October Country Muzzleloading labels it Bumblin Bear Grease.
