After getting advice from you guy's on the lightest production guns, now I need your expertise on pairing down from 2.

One would be the Kimber 8400:Montana (Stainless) and the Tikka Stainless Lite.

Also, I could get the Tikka in .30-06 or the the Kimber in .300wsm.

I would like to be able to use this rifle on elk also, I know the .300wsm probably has more power out to longer ranges, but with today's quality bullets either would probably be fine.

If price was no object which one would you get and why?

Tikka, the reason is it's made by Sako. Nothing against Kimber, but I don't think it's in the same class as Sako. I have the T3 in 300wsm, with factory ammo it will cut the same hole with 3 shots at 100 yards. USMC 84-88

Tikka makes a nice rifle... If it was me and I was looking for a rifle to have for the rest of my life I would choose the Kimber.

You guys aren't making this easy for me.

Do you own a Kimber now?

Tikka for the money. If you want to up the price, I would go with a Cooper before a Kimber.

Why is the Cooper better then the Kimber in your opinion?

Local gun store here sold Kimbers for a few years. Once he started selling Coopers, a few of the Kimber owners shot and compared the two. Then traded their Kimbers for Coopers. And the trend around here continues. He will still order you a Kimber, but stocks Coopers.

Do they carry Coopers, Tikka's and Kimber's at Gander Mountain, Sportsman's Warehouse, or Cabelas?

I'd like to see how they feel.

I'd rather take the Tikka. If my memory is correct the stock is stiffer. On the Kimber at GM the stock easily deformed with hand pressure to touch the barrel, not on the Tikka.

FWIW,

Tony

I was just checking out the new Winchesters and their about a 1/2 pound heavier. I wonder how big of a deal that is when your actually carrying it?
