Sighting in a 7mm Mag, is it similar to a 270 sight in, 1 1/2 inches high at 100 yds?

Ok, I have a buddy who hunts with me. He had to go out and buy a 7mm mag for this year. Anyhow, When I sighted in my .270, I sighted it 1 1/2 inches high at 100 yards. That has me in the kill zone from 20 yards to 250 yards.

Is sighting the 7mm mag similar? Can it be since it has more velocity? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Sure, it's similar.
Sort of depends on your type of hunting. What is the longest shot you'll likely take?
Jack Oconner used to recommend 4" high at 100 yds. for a 300 yd. zero (with a .270). This for longer range shooting.
Problem I have with that is making myself hold 3-4" low at 1 and 200 yds.
The responsible answer (speaking only for myself) is a ranging reticle.
My preference is Leupolds "Boone and Crockett". It is necessary to "Prove" the 2,3 400 yd. marks with your rifle/ammo from a bench. You can fine tune, or dial in the system by increasing/decreasing the magnification.
Lot of work, but it's gratifying when you put it together.
In answer to your question; Yes that should work. I would prove from "the bench".

It's very VERY similar. I suggest you download one of the many free ballistics calculators available on the net, if you want exact.

hi
when setting any hunting rifle i always set it a little high
the same as you 1.5-2" high
it makes it easier when your out in field but you know this

the 7mm,300winmag,7wsm,270,3006,243 are all set the same
and shoot the same when checking zero out to 3-400 yards

hope that helps
