Here's my shop! It's separate from the house and we built when we had the house built, about 1 1/2 years ago. It's 24'x24' and has a 6'x24' grinding room.

No cleaning took place for these pics! :)

Here it is:

From the big door looking right, there's the mill, 60 gal compressor and the excellent Enco bandsaw:

Another pic of these:

Back wall - here's the TV, stereo, fridge, 2 ovens and 3 drill presses:

Another shot of the ovens and presses:

Benches - the far one is where I sit:

Grinding room - far down there is the disc grinder and the Bader grinder. You can see the 12" exhaust fan and all those belts waiting to be thrown out. :uhoh: The belts hanging neatly on the wall are new ones:

Other end - ghetto HT oven, 4x36" grinder, sandblaster and bead blaster. Note I keep the compressor out of here now - the grit ate up my last compressor!

Hope you like it as I sure do!

I envy you, but I'm pretty sure if I had that anywhere near my house I would never come out of it! :)

Man cave.

Toys.

Tim Taylor.

(You mask up when grinding, yes?)

Wait!

What, no lathe? How do you expect to make tubular knives without a lathe?

:D

Love it, Don.

Why does it make me homesick?

Ohhh.....

So that's the delivery room where my knife was born.

Awesome!

How do you like that Ryobi sander? I've been thinking about getting one for my bow making. Flattening bamboo by hand can be a real pain.

I do like it - it has lasted far longer than I expected. I only use it to flatten handle scales but as long as I have a good (new) 50 grit belt on it she works fine.

That Ryobi is similar to my Craftsman 6" disk/4" belt sander.
I converted mine to 3M Hook-It II (6" velcro backed sandpaper). I can add what they call a Interface Pad to give it a cushioned surface for convexing.

If you'd like some details on it, I can probably get some pics.

The only bad part about doing it this way is, when working on sharpened knives, the holes in the paper can grab the edge if you're not careful.

The hook-It II paper is available from 36 grit all the way up to 3000 Trizac.

As for your shop, it looks great. I'm jealous too.

Great looking shop. Did I see it maybe on YouTube? Somebody demonstrated how to make a Kydex sheath and the shop sure looked similar.

Shop on youtube was Adel knives... I believe. Was my kydex reference.

But nice shop. So far I have a bench grinder, (actually a few laying around) And my new, but heavily used already, 1x30 grizzly belt sander. The belt sander is an amazing tool. Even a small one is great for a lot of things. Those 2x72 are tempting, but I am not serious enough to drop that kind of cash yet. And a bandsaw is next on my tools list.

A good bandsaw will make your life a lot easier, but a crappy one like the Harbor Freight one will cause headaches. There is a big difference in cost but get the best you can!

I agree that 1x30" are useful, but I never ground knives on one. I bought the grizzly 2x72" at first and used it but full speed all the time gets old so I finally bought a variable speed machine. I still use the Griz as my buffer! :)

Thanks! I hope to still add a few things but just having a great bandsaw and compressor has made things much easier. :)

Very cool! That's my dream, to have a killer shop for working on bikes, Jeeps, etc. My ULTIMATE dream is to have a big shop on a lot of land, with a covered shooting area on the side or rear of the shop, and my own range.
