View Full Version : Before I send this Scope back...

I bought a Red Head (Bass Pro cheapie) scope.
I know I likely got what I paid for, BUT is there any way to rectify this problem:
I can only get the picture focused OR the reticle clear. Can't get a 100% crisp picture out of the scope and a 100% crisp cross-hair at the same time.
Thoughts?

You might be trying too hard.
If you look through the scope for a long time when you are trying to adjust it, your eye will adapt to whatever focus you happen to hit on.
The object should be to focus so the cross-hairs are sharp.
Do that by pointing the scope up at the sky and quickly looking through it.
Adjust until the cross-hairs are sharp when you snap it up to the sky and quickly look through it.
Then, whatever sharpness the scope view has, is what it has.
But the main thing is don't try to focus it by staring through it and turning the lens back and forth.
Your eye can try to adjust to it much faster then you can screw the lens back & forth!

I understand what you're saying, and to a point you're correct (ie if I sit there and try to get it right, I never can, but if I set the gun down and pick it back up 10 minutes later sometimes it seems ok.)
Thing that bothers me is that I've never had this problem with a scope, and can pick up the BSA on my 30.06 (also a fairly cheap scope) and see the reticle and what I'm looking at clearly every time...also a 3-9 x 40mm
I think I'm suffering from a little bit of remorse that I didn't just get the Nikon I was looking at combined with a crappy scope...

You've already condemed it in your mind and will never trust or like it. Send it back right away...... Once the mind takes over, it's all downhill......

My little lady said the same thing Bailey Boat...I'm headed home from school this weekend (plus Monday and Tuesday morning...gotta vote) so I'll probably stop by Bass Pro while there.

You can also place a piece of white paper against the objective lens and adjust your cross-hair until it's clear This will help with paralex, then focus as normal for range.
