round ball for my new (stock) .36 Pietta? It's misnamed (by Cabela's) as an 1862 Army Police .36 Caliber Revolver. Should I go with .375 or ?

What's the naming error?

.36 cal Piettas seem to like .375 rb's, but if that size doesn't result in a lead ring being shaved off on loading you may need to go to .380's, which are difficult to find.

I use and Colt recommends the.380 for the 2nd series 61 Navy. The .380 cuts a nice ring in mine.

Pietta's .36 caliber Revs have a .375" bore which the .375 ball is made for. The Uberti and Colt 2nd and 3rd Generation .36's have a .380" bore. But you can forcefully put a .380 ball in say a Pietta...Euroarms takes a .380" bal in Remingtons. Not positive on the others, I don't remember the ,36 ASM's.

The nameing error is that they are actually a copy of a much rarer gun,the 1861 Navy,with half fluted cylinder,which held six shots,and was built on the same frame as an 1851 Navy,but with the more molded lines and ''creeping'' [geared] loading lever of the 1860 Army,rather than the simple ''hinged'' lever of the original 1851 Navy whereas the REAL 1862 Police was built on the pocket pistol frame,same as the 1849,and was a five shot.

Ok, wow, can't believe I missed that - 1862 Army Police. I had to go to Cabela's site to confirm they actually did that.

It'd still an awesome little revolver though.And it DID exist...it's just not what they're calling it.On the bright side R&D and Kirst both make conversions for the '51 Navy that will fit the Pietta ''Police'',since it's actually a '61 Navy.

Thanks BHP fan, for answering Mykeal's question; I have been up in the mountains deer hunting and didn't get a chance to get back to the board until tonight. The Pietta is a neat little revolver, haven't had a chance to shoot her yet, will do so in the near future.
