While I'm probably going the Spyderco route, I may grab a Gatco Tricep to toss in my bag when I'm on the go. I have a really silly question :o.... do the instructions on this page apply to all knives or only Emersons, as I understand the edges are only on one side (chisel grind)?

Skunk,
If you would really like to gain an understanding of what sharpening is, and how to go about it I would suggest a book entitled "the Razor Edge Book of Sharpening." You can purchase it through Amazon.
I use an Apex EdgePro sharpening system, and I have yet to meet someone who can put an edge on a knife like I can. I highly recommend this system. :D
Sharpening a chisel ground blade is much the same as sharpening a bevel blade; you just sharpen from one side only. This makes working the burr a bit more challenging, but not bad.
