help me w/ sks FTF

My chinese SKS has been jamming every 25 rounds or so. The bolt will close on a live round facing upwards. The bolt seems to be moving smoothly. Right after buying it I field stripped it and cleaned the gas tube. It contained some greasy black stuff (cosmoline?) I left some of it in thinking it was needed as a lubricant. Should I clean it out and spray some rem oil? What else might be causing the problem?

Don't rule out the fact that the spring inside the fixed mag could be bad. Mine went bad after about 500rds and I replaced it.

You really should pick up a few springs and keep them around. Box mags wear out, and so do the little springs inside your SKS.
