300 seems to be a low end price for a sistema in decent shape....including ammo and mags makes that a good deal in my opinion
reminds me of the rusty pawnshop sistema i saw for 600 dollars.....hehehehe

I bought one in '91. Good gun. Grab it.

Yep those are very well made guns.

It is nearly identical to what colt was making in 1927.

It is a good deal

Get. It.

Seriously, check it out and if it is decent shape, get it. I got one several months ago and it is becoming one of my favorite shooters. Mine is about a 1954 model and has some surface wear but works real fine. Here is a pic.

Concur.

You'll spend in the ballpark of $300 getting a Sistema with one crappy mag from Cruffler.com. Assuming it is in servicible shape and the mags are functional, thats a good deal.

Remember, its a vintage milspec 1911. For $300.

You do the math.

If it's in good shape, $300 is a great deal even without the mags. It's fully compatable with all 1911A1 parts and accessories.

I paid $350 for this one.

I would suggest changing out springs when you get it. Mine had a used up F.P. spring that was about 3/4 the length of the new one. The original sear spring cracked when I tried to adjust it. A new recoil spring would be appropriate too.

Check on the right hand part of the slide near the muzzle.

If it says:

VAM Dist Co LLC
Wooster OH

Then the gun has been gone through and all vital components checked and replaced.

These folks did a good job, mine was a little too refurbished.

I'm glad to hear you had better luck than I did.

My VAM imported Sistema was worth the $299 I paid.
However as delivered....the sear spring was broken, and the barrel had practically no rifling visible. The bore was so pitted and worn that I was concerned about firng it. Fortunately there are surplus parts are out there.

Now my sistema serves as a beat around gun.

Yea, I don't know jsalcedo. My VAM Sistema had a cracked slide. I ended up getting it rebuilt, modernized and hard chromed. It runs like a champ now.

Wow thats weird. right about the time I bought mine I was reading an article about VAM doing a rearsenal on them.

Maybe that came later when they were sifting through the dregs.

I ended up customizing mine with new sights, hammer , grip safety, recoil spring, full length guide rod, finger mold rubber grips etc...

I don't shoot it that much anymore because it's so accurate there is not much of a challenge.

I'm trying to get loads together that will group as well with my other 1911's

Here's my $299 rearsenaled Sistema from JLD. Changed the barrel bushing and link and it's decently accurate. The sights are small - front blade is only 0.065" compared to later USGI 0.080" so it's tough to shoot at 25 yards.

Yep getit!

I paid $325 for mine with a shot out barrel and a cheap mag. Got a new (used) barrel for $40 and some Kimber mags, now it is a great gun.

I'd get it.

You're getting the equivalent of my $450 SA Milspec for $300.

Only difference is that I have SA's obstensible Customer Service at my disposal if anything goes wrong, but not sure if that's really worth $150 premium, especially from the stories I've heard...

The front sight is small and supposedly the metal isn't as good as a newer Springfield or similar for a gunsmith to craft into a match pistol, but GET IT as a solid shooter.

The mags and rounds are probably worth $70 or so.

They are solid, historical guns that can interchange with standard 1911 parts. I imagine a Sistema is an inexpensive way to experience what a real WW2 1911 was like.

I imagine a Sistema is an inexpensive way to experience what a real WW2 1911 was like. That's why I'm leaving mine box stock. You can watch Band of Brothers, Last Man Standing or We Were Soldiers, then go to the range and see what it was really like to shoot those old 1911s.

Boy, Sam Elliot sure made it look easy.

GOT IT !! serial# shows it was built in 1955, Gun feels tight ,basic function test is all good, and as a little bonus it has bigger 3-dot sight's . !0- new mags still in wrapper. It has some scatchs on the slide but not bad. Will follow up with range report soon as I go. Any thing special I should look for except the obvious?

"Good stuff, Maynaard."

You got a deal, son! I love mine. I'll second the motion to replace the springs, though. Check 'em - when in doubt, whip 'em out.

BTW, welcome to THR! (Just in case that hadn't been done yet.)

Uh, <scratching head> check those mags. I've heard some horror stories of 'surplus' mags turning out to be seconds.

Even without the mags, though, ya done good.
