T/C encore .50X209. Need a non-sabot bullet and load for CO elk hunting.

THanks in advance for your help.

Remove the plastic tip and try the 350 grain Hornady FTB. Great accuracy reports across the board. They're sold at Walmart now too.

I think that what he means is that he can not use a Sabot with any kind of bullet & that Colorado may have a restriction against it.

If that is the case.
Try the Thompson Center Maxi-Hunter from Cabelas (http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0020977210231a&type=product&cmCat=cchart_blk_pdr_sab_blts) or the Hornady Great Plains Bullets from Cabelas (http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0020975210219a&type=product&cmCat=cchart_blk_pdr_sab_blts), I think the TC bullet would be a better suit since most of these modern inlines have a 1:28 twist rate.
My 320gr. Lee REAL bullet would probably shoot well too.

As far as powder charges & what not I can not help you much but to say try a 80gr. load of the powder that you presently use & work on your loads till you get the best accuracy.

I've been shooting a home cast .50 cal - 370 grain Maxi -Hunter over 90 grs. of FFG for several years in a T/C Hawkin with excellent results.
I have to my credit about 15 one shot kills on whitetail deer with this combo.

For Colorado ML season for elk I use a maxi-ball with 85 grains of 2F Triple 7 in my 50 cal. fast twist GPH. I have always shot maxi-balls more accurately than maxi-hunters for some reason. Either is fine for elk. By brother uses a 300 gr. CVA Deerslayer in front of 110 gr. 2F GOEX in his 50 cal 1:48.

I had to hunt a Sabot Restrictive area once. After trying a few bullets, I expermented with a Rainier Plated 50 cal 335gr H.P. I had great results. When I had called Rainier, they stated that all thier testing was in smokeless cartridges, and none in muzzleloading, so I was on my own and at my own risk. They hit pretty accurate and HARD. I keep a box around now for non-sabot hunts.

I'd suggest the 460 grain cast bullet from No Excuses Bullets...

Seeing how its a tc, theres no telling if it will shoot conicals worth a darn.
