I have an itch to get a new BP pistol. Given the poll above, why would you get the particular make? I like the original colt design but I already have one so a top strap is needed. I also plan on getting a conversion cylinder for indoor shooting.
I already have a 1851 Confederate Navy and like the balance but getting a Ruger would have the "American" stamp and local repairs, if needed.

But the lines of an 1860 Navy are so nice, but then there's the Walker...
You don't know what you've gotten yourself into!

I've already got the 1851 and a Hawkens. The problem is I can't shoot it most of the year unless I drive to my farm. A conversion cylinder will at least let me shoot locally.

RUGER! You knew I would say that based on my previous postings.:D The Ruger Old Army seems like the most durable and accurate revolver of those you specified. I hope this helps.

I agree that if you want a conversion cylinder then go for the Ruger first.

You could buy a Uberti or pietta 1858 and a conversion cylinder for what they are asking for the ROA. However the ROA is a far superior pistol, particularly the metallurgy. I have both Uberti and Pietta new model army's and the lock works are a little on the soft side. Nothing that can't be fixed with kasenit.

Follow up question. How reliable are the conversions? I'm not looking for drop dead HD reliability, but will I spend more time screwing around with the parts than actually pulling the trigger?
