Here's a pic of my Chinese SKS (6516). Have had it forever and it is a great shooter. Finally got another couple of wooden stocks to experiment with. Here it is with recoil pad and grip enhancer. I sanded the spare stock and stained it with dark green stain. The picture is poor and doesn't really show off the color or grain very well. I'll try to get some better ones soon.

That's a handsome rifle for sure, especially for an SKS. I really do approve of the stock.

How's that 30rnd magazine feeding? None of my USA mags worked well enough to keep (gave 'em away).
Do you still have the original 10rnd fixed mag?

Nonetheless, with that ventilated handguard and 30rnd mag, it's an intimidating rifle even without the spike bayonet.

Both of the 30rnd'ers function @ 100%. I normally use the original std. fixed box w/strippers but the 30 rnd'ers are a blast! ;)

My Norinco is one of my favorite shooting guns, especially with the affordable price of the ammo. I got a good 40 round mag that works very well, except for the fact that I can only fit 38 rounds into it. What did you use to stain that wood stock?

I used a Dark Green stain that I found at Home Depot. I believe it was a Minwax product. They also had several other colors: Dark Red, Dark Blue, Black, etc...

I'm glad to hear that you used a spare stock.

Where did you get that "grip enhancer"? Is it rubber? I might try one of those on a beat up fiberglass "jungle stock" that I have.

You don't happen to have a pic of the SKS with that stock and the fixed mag do you?

DMK: That grip enhancer is rubber and has improved this SKS 100%! I bought this one at a local gun shop, however I believe that I have seen it online as part of a "hunters package" that includes the butt pad, grip enhancer and cheek rest from Bushmaster www.bushmaster.com.

How reliable are the AK mag conversions for the SKS?

I don't think you can legally convert the SKS to AK mags. There are too many restrictions on it. There are some SKS-D and SKS-M models that take AK mags. I just found one today and put money down on it. Should be fun. I have two other SKS's already, but when I saw this one I knew I had to have it.
