Anti-weapon frenzy strikes Australia

I was sent this today.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
This year Australia begins to treat swords like guns. Taxation, registration, storage mandates, et al. And so it begins.
Apparently, their politicians don't know how effective a Cross pen can be as a killing instrument (if the killer doesn't mind the goo) or they've never compared an eight-inch Hackels chef's knife to a Marine K-Bar (they are functionally identical). Or, even worse, they do know but they are waiting for the proper moment to introduce further repressive regulations [historically this is not a far-fetched possibility].
Individual murders were a part of the human experience long before guns or swords and will not be reduced nor eliminated (in the long run) by banning this technology or that. Knives and blunt objects are already the weapon in about 40% of aggrivated assaults and murders.
So long as the anti-violence movement focuses on instruments and not on violent actors, they are doomed to failure and the rest of us will be victimized by every increasing (but never successful) repressive measures. Their conduct reminds me of the Abraham Lincoln anecdote about the man who complained that he had cut this board three times and it was ... still too short.
As James D. Wright says "Benevolence and malevolence inhere in the motives and behaviors of people, not in the technology the possess. Any [sword] is neither more nor less than a chunk of machined metal that can be put to a variety of purposes,... . We can only call this 'good' when the [human actor's purpose] is appropriate and 'evil' when it is not; the [sword] itself in immaterial to this judgment." [Society, Mar/Apr 1995, 67].

Australia's government has gone completely insane. Why don't they just outlaw martial arts schools - "training grounds for muggers". Wait, I don't want to give them any ideas. . .

Leftist extremists are not opposed to violence. They're opposed to commoners having the means and freedom to defend our lives and property. If they were even 1% opposed to violence, they'd advocate cracking down on criminals, not the law-abiding.

What a bunch of ninnies in the Parliment. Swords?!?!

What total morons.
About five years ago I made the prediction that China or Indonesia would invade Australia within 2 decades, kill or castrate everyone there and resettle with its excess population. Fifteen years to go.

You should see our benevolent tyrants from up close and personal:eek:
THR does not condone the use of language adequate to describe the misguided, self-delusional, tinpot tyrants who are formulating policy at both the state and federal level in this nation:fire:
Standing Wolf's sentiments equate with I was about to add:
"They're opposed to commoners having the means and freedom to defend our lives and property. If they were even 1% opposed to violence, they'd advocate cracking down on criminals, not the law-abiding."
I hope that this insanity may someday be seen for what it is.

Scary sharp pointy things are now against the law. Will it soon be illegal to be a male, older than 12, younger than 30, weighing more than 180 pounds, in good shape, and having some boxing skill? Don't they understand what they're doing? Abandoning civil society to the biggest bullies? (or the best-connected associates of the powers that be)
Owhell, I reckon we're reverting back to default primate behavior: The alpha baboon in the troop gets all the females, the other males have to bend over when he expresses a desire to dominate them.
BTW, I'm a male, over 50, about 130 lbs., out of shape, smoke and drink too much. In other words, a guaranteed loser in a fight without weapons. It was widely available cheap firearms which gave us the Age of Democracy, dangit! I ain't bending over for the Big Baboon; I'd rather shoot him!:fire: :cuss:

Yes, even unarmed the bad guys will have an advantage over you in the Brave New World without weapons. Especially the prison tough who's been lifting weights for a decade and training with the other no-goodniks. Just see how well your pepper spray or emergency whistle works.
But they'll get weapons anyway. Just watch.

Well all of you living in Australia have waited too long. When the PM first proposed this insane road he needed to be shot in public. Him and everybody that supported him. Wait and see what they do when you have no way to resist. Any bets on Australia having any more elections?

Of course there'll be more elections. How do I know? Because ALL the major political parties in Australia agree with the current government's stance on firearms/weapons and self-defence. In fact, the present government is probably the LEAST restrictive in terms of firearms policy  Our Democrats, Greens and the Labor Party would have us, if not totally disarmed, further restricted and forced to store our firearms in government-run armouries, available only with a written application stating a "good reason" why they should be released for a specified time.

Hey Bruce (and any other Aussie out there with a love of liberty) ... time for y'all to get the hell out of there (since "refreshing the tree of liberty there isn't too likely). We just bought a new Futon ... so if want to join the free world (what's left of it) and need a place to crash, drop me an email.
Don't worry, you can still get Vegemite here (they have some down at Walmart, believe it or not)

How did it get like this in Australia? My mental image of Aussies has always been the pioneering outback outdoorsman, rugged men and women carving out the frontier, kinda like the American West.
Yet I occaisionally read the Sydney Morning Herald, and I all I see are puppet waving, leftist, we're-all-one-world-now types.
Can't you all "vote the bums out", or do the people really want this?
Bruce in West Oz
September 17, 2003, 08:28 AM
Yes, we can "vote the bums out".
The problem is, no matter who we vote in -- they all feel the same way!
There is only 1 or 2 pro-gun parliamentarians in the whole of Australia. And they will never be voted into power.

How sad. It is eye opening to see how fast and how far Australia has slipped in such a short period of time. That slippery slope is awful damn slippery.
We need to remember Austrailia's fate over here so their ruin will not be in vain.

Bruce, we've had six people killed with knives in Sydney so far this week, so obviously the new laws are stopping murders with firearms.
Of course, if the grandfather who was stabbed to death trying to save his grandchildren (the youngest was 20 months) from their knife wielding father had been armed with a firearm, he would have been charged, so it's all for the best.
*note for the ironically challenged, the above post is dripping with sarcasm.*
I find it amusing that the .38 cassull has taken off as a replacement barrel for the .45, as above 38 cal is now banned for most citizens. Those of us on the working party for the regulations here in NSW managed to get the wording changed from high calibre to large calibre so there would be no retrospective banning of such interesting rounds.
BTW the recall design forum _is_ monitored. I was informed by the NSW confiscation manager that he was reading it, he was most unhappy with talk of civil disobedience.
Currently the 'surrendering everything and getting out of the sport' group is running at 40% in QLS and Vic, according to the buyback manager.
For our American brethren, things have got harder, but we'll survive. The Feds brought in a minimum barrel length of 120mm for autos to try and knock out the major service pistols. So far Glock, Tanfoglio, CZand H&K have introduced extended barrels for our market, Beretta and Para Ordnance were already over that.
Calibres above 38 are now heavily restricted. Para, STI, Bul, Rock River, Kimber and Colt will be providing .38 super 1911s for our market.
There is always a way to work around the government.
Unfortunately the majority of Aussies are unaware of firearms, they only know what is shown in the distorted media, and there is little we can do to change things in the short term. Only one in 5000 people in my state owns a pistol, maybe 1 in 20 owns a rifle or shotgun.

he was most unhappy with talk of civil disobedience.I'll bet he was. The kicker is that he and his ilk should be fearing some uncivil disobedience...but that isn't going to happen now. There is always a way to work around the government. Until you can't, then it's game over isn't it.

The problem is, no matter who we vote in -- they all feel the same way! Bruce, you'd probably feel better in Texas. I recall there was a small exodus from the US to Australia in the 50's and 60's respectively but now would hope the good guys from Australia would think about leaving.
I can't decide whether I think the big baboon is more likely China or Indonesia but in either case those who stay had better stock up on vaseline!

My four options for living in the USA were always (in no order): Maine, Texas, Vermont or Alaska.
Maine, because I love the countryside; Vermont for its (lack of) gun laws and the countryside; Alaska for its "frontier, we-can-do-it" feel and gun laws; and Texas? Well, laugh if you will, but I used to be an avid fan of "Walker, Texas Ranger", and liked what I saw. :D

Couple of thoughts:
I for one am troubled by what is going on for you and yours, I appreciate your sharing as others whom lurk and sit on the fence may gain insight and learn.
Innoncents Betrayed is being released, maybe too late for you folks, but anyway a viewing might have bearing on those whom "run things"? Bearing on citizens whom may view to ...err...well get off the fence and get involved?
I'm sure a copy can be arranged to find its way to you. Not in a great place myself...but hey...I'll split the cost and shipping with another member...any takers.? email better for me.

Texas has climate in its favour.....Most Aussies I know would freeze solid in a Maine or Vermont winter:D

The politicians here would turn up their noses at "Innocents Betrayed",
they aren't interested in factual presentations, only in achieving their agendas.

We've all got to remember.
Australia is not an isolated case of just another nation losing freedom to a corrupt government.
This is a concerted, worldwide effort by individuals and organizations which believe that individuals should submit totally to the authority of government. They envision a world disarmed except for "authority".:fire:
The same activists who pushed so hard for the confiscation of 650,000
semi-auto and pump-action long guns in Australia six years ago are now on the world stage, campaigning for firearms registration in Switzerland.
They are at the U.N., in the form of the chair of IANSA, Rebecca Peters, spending George Soros' millions to achieve their agenda.:scrutiny:
Those who vote for less-than-pro-gun candidates in the U.S. will find the global anti-gun circus tent in their back yard should these "sensible gun control" candidates succeed.
Remember the Clintons and their willingness to ban guns "for the children"?
