Is .410 British the same as "regular" .410?

What's the reference?

The British still load 2" .410s, I can't think why.

Yes. What do these things shoot? Are they rifled barrels?

Thanks,
Mike

unless i've hit my head and gotten addled since the last time i looked at one....

the "410 enfields" are smooth bores, adn fire regular .410 ammo (though it may be the 2" variety)

as i understand it, these are "foraging guns" that were issued in singles or pairs to the various "field kitchen" units, so that said units could add a little variety to the daily rations, through the addition of rabbits, local foul etc.

there were also foraging SGs based on the Martini action (these are NOT the same as the Martini GP 14ga, and use regular shells)

The converted single shot .410 Lee-Enfields were also issued to Indian gaurd troops not fully trusted with a ten round rifle in the days of the Empire.

There are also British sporting rifles reamed out to .410 shot because the owner could not qualify for a firearms certificate and preferred to ruin his rifle rather than get rid of it.

Some are 2 inch chambers, and some have been reamed to a 2 1/2'' chamber. That's what I have, but I haven't gotten around to shooting it yet. There's just something evil about paying 7 bucks for a box of shotgun shells.:what:

Make friends with a skeet shooter, and maybe he will let you have some ragged old .410s.
