Class III Weapons in Illinois?

Ok guys, I live in Missouri half the year and IL half the year, I'm a student and have legal residence in both states. Now, that being said, I might end up moving back to the People's Republic of Illinois (a little bad humor there) full time. Now, I know all about the $200 tax-stamp, sheriff's sign-off, and rediculous background-check, etc for the transfer of a short-barreled rifle, shotgun, automatic weapon, suppressor, etc. My question is, even with all that stuff, can a person even own that stuff in IL? I wasn't sure if the Class-III stuff negated or superceded IL law or what, and if it is even possible to have that stuff in IL. I have been to ranges in IL that rent full-auto weapons, so I am thinking there must be a way...or maybe you must be a full blown Class-III dealer. The reason I asked is that my father-in-law, a law-abiding gun enthusiast was talking about how cool it'd be to have a Thompson or Uzi, and I was thinking the same.

Thanks!

IANAL

I do not believe any full auto/suppressor/AOW/SBR are legal in Illnois. As alwways I could be wrong.

I have been to ranges in IL that rent full-auto weapons,
Could you please identify such ranges that do that. I have some nephews I would love to take to such a range.

Thank you

AFAIK--in theory--an AOW could be IL owned. I know of no one with one.

Machine guns, SBRs, SBSs, supressors, all illegal in Illinois regardless of federal law.

Well that sucks. My buddy, a Missouri resident, has a suppressed Mac-11, and while I think the semi-auto versions are useless, that would be a very fun gun to take to the range.

NukemJim: Belleville Shooting Range in downtown Belleville, IL has full-auto rentals. It's located about 15 miles east of STL.

Thank you.

It will be a long drive down there but I will get them there as a present sometime in the next year.

Again thank you

That's strange... IL law says that the machineguns have to be broken down dealer not actually demonstrating them to police or other qualified buyers.

Why is it that dealers are allowed to rent this stuff? Is there a loophole regarding all that?

Come to think of it, here in the Twin Cities, Bill's Gun Range does the same thing. While not quite as onerous as the IL law, one would think that the "dealer samples" are for demonstration to LEO and equivalent.

Not that I actually have any problem with people renting a Class III weapon, but if we're going to throw out the window any pretense of using those 'special' dealer guns for what they're supposed to be using them for, then why have the prohibitions in the first place?

There's also John Ross who has his MG shoots every so often in IL.

Take Obama's rediculously tight gun laws in IL as a warning of how he will govern the nation. This is gonna be bad.
