Looking to see if anyone in here has one of these.I'm starting out with round balls to get used to it and may try deer hunting with them.Wondering what a good load may be and how accuracy is with the round ball.I tried load of 60FFG in it and ball went thru 1/2 plywood like nothing at around 40 yds.

i have a reproduction kentucky rifle .45 caliber
at 40 yards with a 40 gr charge of 777 powder
a single ball will go through a piece of 4" soft wood.
which is scary .
i was assured 80gr charge was good for fox/deer @ 100 yards +
using 150gr balls

I had the misfortune of owning the only lemon T/C ever made,a White Mountain Carbine. It wouldn't shoot ANYTHING worth squat!!At 50yds it was all I could do to keep 3 shots on a half sheet of plywood. I did manage to get my first muzzleloader deer with it. At a distance of 50' max-thank God it wasn't any futher away. Now the Black Diamond on the other hand outshoots any 30-30 I ever owned out to 100yds or so. I gave the WMC away years ago-wouldn't have it back on a bet!!

This is a carbine, after all, with a short 21" barrel, so range is limited. I keep it to 50 yards and under. Mine is a .54 cal and I shoot 70 gr ffg and a .530 patched round ball with a .015 lubed patch. I have not developed a load so this is an estimate. Seems ok, however. The twist rate is 1 in 32; some early WMC's had a 1 in 20 twist; either rate is better for conicals than round balls, but with the short barrel I doubt there's really much difference.
