For absolutely no logical reason, I am keen to own a 1911-style pistol in .17HMR.

Any gun produced in .22WMR is a possible candidate for 17 of course, but then not many companies left make .22WMR pistols now (AMT was the big one). The local gun shop I go to knew of no other companies right off.
I am not yet to the point where I'd pay to have a AMT converted to 17, though it should be possible with just a barrel change. The parts problem of a defunct manufacturer is what scares me away.
----Accu-Tek is one company that has some new guns coming out at some point (?), one of these is an autopistol in 22 mag and 17 mag rimfire:

I heard of this on a newsgroup a few weeks ago; as of this posting Accu-Tek's online catalog is still not up.
----Volquartsen has their Cheetah, but that isn't 1911-style--it is basically a 10/22 mag action with a pistol-grip stock, a short barrel and a hefty price tag.

Autos? Nope, can't think of any. There are a few out there that make wheel-guns in .22 WMR tough...

I was also looking for a .17 HMR semi-automatic pistol. When the dust settled, I got the Volquartsen Cheetah. In my mind, there are several advantages to the Cheetah.

1) The 10" barrel (Volquartsen has 7" on the web site, but that refers to the .22 LR model) is long enough to generate some serious velocity.

2) The action is the well proven 10/22 Magnum with Volquartsen parts. Thus, there are a huge number of parts out there, and the pistol is backed up by Volquartsen service. The magazines are Ruger's rotary magazines, so feeding is not an issue. It operates just like my Volquartsen .17 HMR rifle, so that is a plus.

3) The barrel is titanium sleeved, and the receiver is aluminum (machined from a billet), so the weight is not too bad for such a big pistol. It is not exactly easy to shoot off-hand, but it is portable.

4) The pistol has an integral Weaver mount which makes adding optical sights a snap. I added a 2 MOA C-More red dot sight so I did not need rings or a base.

5) I could not find another semi-automatic pistol in .17 HMR. Makes the first four seem like bonuses.

The pistol shoots better than I do. It is (once I get good enough to use it) a squirrel-hunting machine.

It is no longer made, but AMT made an Auto Mag in 22WMR. Not a 1911, but it was an autoloader.
They pop up on the gun auctions and around shops from time to time.

I bought my Automag II for $325 circa 1990. No idea what the "gas assist" system is...never mentioned in the manual I had.

Cheap from Phoenix Arms I got one for backup after cleaning the feed ramp never jambs and with hi-cap gives you 11+1 as fast as you can pull trigger of hi velocity knee busting fun.

crazy prices.. guns looks pretty nice, but i would not pay $1500+ for a 17hmr when i already know my savage 17hmr will shoot just as accurate or more.... and it cost me less than $250
