I've heard the new ones are better than the older ones. No proof, maybe a magazine review I read somewhere. IIRC the trigger is much better than it used to be and It grouped extremely well for a rifle in that price class(1.5"avg). All accounts put it far ahead of the remington 770 and the 710. I still say a beat up old 700 is a better rifle.

That is the going price for them, so it is fair. No point in buying more with a crappy scope that you'll have to get rid of later. In any case, they are much better rifles than the 770 at much less money.

I'll agree with hoss on the used 700. I sighted in a 100atr for a guy at work and it shot 2" groups on average. Good enough to hunt with but not near the rifle a 700 is.

Put good glass on it and be happy. I don't have a 100ATR but I have the 800 and 810 Mossbergs from the 1960's in everything from 243 up to 7mm Mag and am happy with them.
The ATR is the offspring of a Savage 110 and the Howa 1500, sharing features from both. At that price, it is a good rifle and while it doesn't have the Remington name that you get with the 710 or 770, it is a far better rifle at a far better price.

the new marlin seems to be a 110 clone & might be worth looking at also. or go with a stevens, a savage without the accutrigger but everything else is pretty much the same.

Have an ATR-100 in .30-06. In MY hands, with cheap soft-point ammo, will hold inside 2"@100Yds, 5 shots.
Shooting Budd with much steadier hands and Fed Gold Medal Match ammo got a smidge under 0.7"@100Yds, 5 shots.
Bought it in Sept. 04 so it is one of the earlier ones. I might install some better glass...I have a Simmons "Blazer" 3-9x50 on it right now.
