Anyone here own a thompson encore in 308. I was thinking about picking one up anyone got any input. Also I think it comes in a bull barrel or standard barrel which would be best plan on using it out to around 300 yds or so on deer and pigs.

Went the Encore route a couples of years ago. Mine was bought as a muzzleloader. Bought a bunch of barrels and scopes for that gun. Wrong answer for me. Only two of the barrels were really accurate: The .22 Hornet and the .35 Whelen barrels. The chamber of the .30-06 barrel had too much headspace.

Sold all my barrels but two and used the scopes to upgrade my bolt action guns.

There are several issues with an Encore that you need to read up on. First is the barrel side play.

Eight or nine years ago I bought an Encore muzzleloader and since then bought a .223 Rem bull barrel, a .308 Win standard barrel and a 12 gauge turkey barrel.
With the .223 Rem or the .308 Win barrel installed it is very accurate.
I did have a trigger job done and a Limbsaver recoil pad installed. The recoil from the turkey barrel was petty bad.It is hard to beat a .308 for deer and the bull barrel is not needed.
