SB489 (CA) - Help me pick autoloaders to buy before the next ban

The California legislature is well on its way to passing SB489. If enacted into law, SB489 would deem "unsafe" any semi-automatic handgun that does not have a "loaded chamber" indicator and "magazine disconnect" feature on it. That covers basically every semi-automatic handgun in existence today.
So, SB489 is sitting on Grey Davis' desk. Obviously, he will sign it or wait 30 days and it will become law.
Please help me pick the next 20 or so guns I should buy before the ban. Already have Glock 17, CZ 75 and Valtro... what are the 'must haves' before the ban takes effect?
Thanks,
-s
PS: Yes, I know I should put the money instead into a U-Haul rental, for for the sake or argument, lets say I am staying in this cesspool for a while.

Sven,
I can only hope that this is just a bad dream! What about all the guns that are on the "safe list"? If it were to pass, how long until the ban takes effect?

Kalifornia is a lost cause. Move to Texas, enjoy your freedoms, and forget Kali.
(Texas, where just this past friday, I walked into an Academy, and 25 minutes later, walked out with my new CZ75B. No shizzle.)

Sven, get out while you still can. They don't call California the Land of Fruits and Nuts without reason. I love the natural beauty of the state but I don't understand the politics there.

A.) When you think about it, isn't a revolver a 'semi-automatic' of sorts? They have a capacity of 5-8 rounds and, fired DA, you can fire them as fast as you can squeeze the trigger. But I degress:uhoh:
B.) I believe this stupid law doesn't affect sales until 2006....ILA(NRA)and others may appeal and turn it over.
C.) As another Cal resident, I've just about had it with this shXt....my brother/sister-in-law have a 450 acre ranch in the Texas Hill Country...it's lookin' pretty good and I'm RE-tired, anyway.
D.) Assuming you stay, here's a few on my wish list: S&W .45 ACP Performance Center 945, any Les Baer.45, ditto Wilson Combat, the "new" Browning Hi-Power, Colt Government G.I. 1911,
S&W 5906/910/Shorty-Forty/1911, Springfield TRP, Kimber USA Shooting Team model, Beretta Elite, CZ 97B/P01, Hi-Point "Hair Dryer" 9mm Compensated laser-beam:D
Vote for McClintock, if there still is a recall election......Ahnold is a girly-boy when it comes to Gun Laws.

Sven, SB489 applies to new models after the law takes affect. Guns already the list are ok as long as the manufacturer continues to pay the yearly fees on time. Cali won't see new gun models (after 2006-2007) unless they have the new features when they are tested or they will fail automaticly. Mark

There is no guarantee the manufacturers will keep them on the list, so I need to buy all that I can - once they are off, they are off for 'good'.

I would buy something concealable and a good .22
You got a Valtro already, as it is IMO, the pinnacle of self loading handguns (:)), I might focus on revolvers - if they are affected. Are Revolvers exempt from this law? Does it apply to semis only?
You know, but '06, all guns under that law have to have BOTH a disconnect AND a chamber indicator. Where does that leave revolvers?

Sven, I've been trying to put together a similar list :( Models that come to mind...a nice 1911, BHP, & P7M8
I'm sure there are others that are just escaping me for the moment.

I'm guessing most manufacturers will just say, "Screw California, there are a bunch of other free states we can sell our guns in."

Seriously, another Valtro. Redundency is good .
You obviously like the SA platform, besides a 2nd Valtro, get other 1911s , ( maybe a commandr size for a change) and BHPs. I get two min, of each, having a backup is a good thing. Staying with a platform that fits is smart.
Not sure what is currently restricted, but get what can before supply dries up. Of course I kinda adhere to carry cash and being patient...CCs are accceptable for groceries, utilities, gasoline...frees up the cash flow... for necessaties of course...necessaties :)
Gotta say, I hate what all is going on in Kali for you people...there's a whole country outside that state...State ...whatever it's called...

Ky Larry:
FYI, that would be the land of fruits, nuts, and FLAKES!
But I agree with the majority opinion: get out while you still can.

I'm in the same boat, bud. :( :cuss:
Well, you didn't give any specs as to what you like/look for in a gun, so here's my recommendation:
Buy whatever catches your fancy in the least. First, buy anything you've been eyeing, then move on to anything that you have ever liked at all.
This new bill has prompted me to get serious about a Desert Eagle, which has long been one of my favorite pistols.
Do not buy long guns or revolvers; put your money towards semis while you still can buy them.
After I'm done buying pistols, I may get a revolver or two and then I'll start accumulating long guns. That will be real hard on the wallet, as there is no "one every 30 days" rule with long guns, and there are a lot to choose from.
Here's my list of guns that I'm going to get within the next short while:
Colt 1991A1 Blued
Colt 1991A1 Stainless
Glock 29
Desert Eagle .50 (Or the .44 and swap the bbl for a .50 as I'm not sure that the .50 pistol itself is CA legal. )
HK .45 USP Compact
And maybe another Glock or two...I really love those things! :)
Sincerely,
Your fellow serf.

I'm guessing most manufacturers will just say, "Screw California, there are a bunch of other free states we can sell our guns in."
I wish this were the case. But, unfortunatly since california is sucha huge market i think that instead of this what is going to happen is that the rest of us are going to have to get used to having "loaded chamber indicators" and "magazine dosconects". Few big manufacturers can afford to ignore the Cali market. And i dont see them making seperate "cali" and "non cali" cersions of their guns.
