I have a new single six, stainless, 6 1/2 barrel. What would the rough estimate be as to how many rounds it would take to wear the barrel to where it would affect accuracy?

More than you could fire from it in your lifetime?

The only way to wear it out is to over-clean it.

I have a old Ruger Bisley .22 that has WAY over 50,000 rds. thru it and is still as accurate as the day I got it.

How long will it last? So long that no one really knows, I think.

A friend of mine wore out a Douglas barrel on a K38 shooting PPC. Perhaps 150,000 rounds of wadcutters. It was still reasonably accurate when a handloading error led to a stuck bullet and a followup shot bulged the barrel. The gunsmith said the rifling was eroded away about 2/3 of the way down. But it would still hold the ten ring of the B27 target.

I bought my Single Six in 1962. No idea how many rounds but it will still shoot better than I can.

I am not sure one could ever wear the barrel of any .22LR rifle or pistol out.

The bullets are soft lead and the velocity is relatively slow.

The barrel life of a Single-Six has yet to be determined.

Disallowing for bad ammo (squib lodged in barrel, followed by another full power round or something else really goofy) I suspect that your great-grandkids MIGHT see a small loss of accuracy.

Oldest brother has an early Ruger .22LR auto-loader (Standard Model?? MKI??) he bought sometime in the mid 60's. Still keeps 'em in the 10-ring when he does his part.

Hi, Claymore1500,

I think you just volunteered to determine the barrel life of a Single Six. Let us know the result; I am sure that any of us still around would be interested.

I have a old 4 5/8 in barrel 3 screw, round gate out of the 50's, and it still groups wonderfully. !0's of thousands I would guess.
