Rarely ever see 3 in. S&W's for sale around here. Today I found and bought two pretty nice examples. A 13-3 and a 30-1. I happy, my wallet is not.

I love three inch revolvers.
I also have a 13 with a three inch bbl, but not a J-frame, although I would love to have one.
Congrats on your beautiful new weapons.

It's a good barrel length. I don't understand why it's never become more popular.

You bought some fine looking revolvers. The three-inch barrel is a marvelous length for carry. They point better than a 2", get a little more velocity out of the cartridge, offer more sight radius, give full length ejection, and seem more secure in an open-top holster. I found a model 60 3" for my wife and a 640 3" for my sister. I just wish I could run across one for myself!

Yep, I too am a fan of 3".
Nice looking pair-enjoy.
But lets keep the 3" a secret from everyone else-shall we? ;)

A 3" Model 13 is pretty durn near the holy grail of CCW sixguns.

The 3 inch bug bit me and been itching like hell lately. Hopefully I have rounded out my N-frame 3" wants with my latest find in the makings and topped it off with the addtion of the elusive 696. There really is light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm anxiously awaiting the purchase of a stainless Ruger GP100 with a 3" barrel. I've really taken a liking to the 3"ers. Mike

That M13 is drop dead gorgeous. There is something about blue steel revolvers.

I think you'll be happy switching from the M19 2.5 to the M13 3". While the extra 1/2 inch may not provide significant extra velocity, there are other gains.

When using a belt holster, the little extra length presses against the hip and better keeps the butt against your body. The underlugged barrel of the 19 is visually nifty, but it adds weight, better devoted to the extra length.

The fixed rear sight is far more durable than the adjustable, and doesn't tear up clothing nearly so badly. Unless you're going to be switching back and forth in your load choice, the target sights are a needless burden, anyhow.

Your 3" J frame is really nice, too. :)

My latest revo is a 3" S&W 629. It's a hoot, particularly with loads designed with shorter barrels in mind.

I think that 3" K-frames are the absolute dickens for a CCW wheelgun.

A Model 13 or 65 is a serious, no-frills fighting tool.

These things are hard to come by, since most owners tend to hang on to them. It took me a year and a half to find a 3" M65 locally. Brought it home for $220 in well-used condition. Another $100 got me a new bead-blasted finish, a red-ramped front sight, and elimination of the cylinder end shake. Best $320 I ever spent on a carry gun.

I had a 3" Backpacker. Noise from Dynaporting was too much for me, so I sold it. My "grail" is a 3 1/2" mod 27. I took a pass on a 65 3" at a show in favor of a mod 12 a while back, looking back I shoulda "bit the financhial bullet" a got the 65 also.

I'll add my 3"ers to the party. A 36 and a 696. Its funny how I can't shoot true snubbies worth a darn, but when you add that extra inch the targets get happy again.

ChristopherG; the 650 was (is) a 3'' j frame bull barrel, 22 mag, fixed sights.
Nice little hiker, you had to clean very often while firing so unburnt powder would not bind it up. Another one I let get away :banghead: SPG

I just purchased a .38spl snubbie for carry use and started looking for info on PD ammo. Then comes the confusion.
Ammolab.com showns no load that expands much from a snubbie no matter what the penetration. (Standard gel test.)
The article in "Guns & Ammo 2004 Annual" has test results done by DVC Labs which show a totally different picture. In this test there are several PD rounds that exhibit both good expansion and penetration.
Is there something that I am missing here?
Although I sincerely hope I never have to shoot anything but my usual paper plates, I still prefer to carry the very best just in case. Any suggestions from the experts on this subject? (Currently loaded with Speer Gold Dot JHP 125gr. +P)
Thanks, Kim:confused:
