Should I trade a Nikon Buckmaster for a VX-III + $250?

I have the opportunity to trade my NIB Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x40 for a new Leupold VX-3 3.5-10x50 (comes with Leupold mounts and Butlercreek covers).

This is going on my deer rifle (7mm-08), which I shoot about 100 times a year for fun. I don't plan on buying another scope for many years.

The deal is I give up the Nikon scope plus a Swamp Rat Ratmandu (worth at least $150) plus a RAT Cutlery RC-4 ($100). Is the Leupold worth $250 more than the Nikon? I have to answer by the morning.

I'm not sure if it's worth that much more, but it would cost that much more. I haven't used the newer VX-3's but they should have better glass and coatings than a Buckmaster, remember that's Nikons scope for the masses. If it was a Monarch I'd definately say no, but have a look through it and see if it looks that much better to your eyes.

I certainly wouldn't! If all you do is a little bit of shooting for fun and go deer hunting, the scope you have is likely plenty good enough. You don't need repeatablity and the coatings etc. the VX-3 offers. The VX-3 aside, you could likely put a $100 dollar scope on that gun and be perfectly satisfied with it's performance.

Well personally I would do it, I like Leupold and have a VX-III on my hunting rifle and its a great scope.
