1. very good
2. very good
3. good-very good. assuming you mean 7.63x39. If you mean 7.62x51/.308, it is expensive.
4. depends on your confidence, patience, and experience working with hand tools. If you have average ability in those areas, very good.
5. not going to win matches, but good enough for fun and self defense

allthough I agree with everything said above, I will add this
accuracy for a ak will be better than 99% of other ak accuracy, unless you
are comparing with say, galil, valmet, vepr,Tantal, like that. Allthough these listed will cost you up to 1000 bucks as well. the Saiga beats all others in accuracy. when you buy one, make sure you get the front site tool...

Oh, if you live anywhere in the South, and have access to an Academy store, they will be selling x39 ammo until the end of the year, for 2.99 a box. with tax, that comes to 16 cents a round.
you cannot handload for less than that...

it was either the saiga 7.62x39 or an ar15 but my father has 2 already. i know there's a lot of differences between the 2 style of rifles but can anyone give me stone cold evidence that the saiga is worth purchasing.

i know there's a lot of differences between the 2 style of rifles but can anyone give me stone cold evidence that the saiga is worth purchasing. "Worth" is a very personal opinion.

What is 'worth it' for one person may be 'not worth it' to another.

I thought that sale was through December?

and as far as worth goes, it depends on you. If I let you choose any non piston drive ar, and I choose a stock Saiga, and we load up , say, 30 mags for each to fire, and we both go nonstop firing the ammo, until we are empty.
And lets just say, we have a bunch of THR dudes standing around, and the are ... ahem... wagering. And the wager is, which one is going to fail first, or better yet, which one will go through all their mags, without a weapon failure.
which rifle do you think they are going to be laying all their money on?
