Picked up my SLB2000 today. I should have picked it up on Sept 2, but the paperwork got botched somehow. I had my FFL send papers again and the gun finally shipped on Sept 11. Finally arrived today 9/16 :rolleyes: About :cuss: time.

Pro's:
Light. I like the trigger. I haven't dry-fired it much but it feels more like a light take-up and a surprise soft break. I'm no mechanical expert so I can be describing it all wrong. The mag release rules. It's set up like the HK pistols, an ambidextrous paddle. The bolt release is right over the right side of the magazine and can be thumbed off. I haven't tried it with a round in the mag but I imagine it will be fast to manipulate. The rear grip is at a steep angle and with my paw on the magazine as a foregrip, the rifle can be pulled in tight to the shoulder. I really like the ergonomics of the gun.

Cons:
The sights. Post and notch, like a pistol and short sight radius. The HK diopter sights would have been too much of a good thing, but I wish it had it. I have problems seeing the front sight, but I am due for an eye exam. That's what I get for playing with computers since I was 3 years old. The rifle requires tools for disassembly. The allens that take the forend off are a different size than the ones that remove the trigger group. My set doesn't have the right size to remove the trigger group so I haven't even taken it apart to clean it yet. I don't like how not only one, but two sized allens are required to take it down...VERY tacky. :fire:

Thoughts:
So far I like the ergonomics of the gun. I haven't mounted the scope because I couldn't take the gun apart yet, and the ARMS mounts that I ordered don't seem to fit on the mount. If you don't like the plasticky, sterile feel of the USPs, you won't like this gun. I wish it came with a polygonal barrel. I think it's a lands and grooves barrel. Not sure why, other than it's an HK.

More when I get to shoot it which won't happen until next friday. I'll post pics if I get home before sundown tomorrow.

Did you get a trigger lock with it? Also, did your gun come in an uber-cool case or did you get a plain brown box like they pawned off on us SL8-1 owners.. :uhoh:

Skunk, the 'HK' multitool looks EXACTLY like this Bondhus model.. It's even the same color. The only difference is that this one doesn't have the letters, H and K on it.. :uhoh: The HK tool comes with 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, & 6mm allens. Along with a Phillips and standard (5mm) screwdriver.. There is really nothing all that 'tactical' about it.. ;)

Yes there is, it says HK!!!! Well I want the screwdrivers in it...well that's my story for now and I'm sticking to it!

My dad got me the ARMS #5 mount but it doesn't fit!!!! And I found out the Allens are the same size but I need TWO of them because they're on BOTH side of the :cuss: receiver...I need two allens of the same size?!?!?!? HELLLOOOO!!!! :banghead:

Frustrated because I have no second toolset!!!

I hope I get the scope mounted on. And I tried calling HK today but they were closed because of not-so-fair weather :( I wonder if the thing is sighted in already or I need some speshul tool to adjust them. Hate to drive up to the range only to not have the right tools. Time to peruse the manual...again...

No name yet. I think I'll name her after some girl I met in a far-away place, but I gotta make sure I like the gun first :D

Idiot update. I disassembled the bolt just for fun and can't get the thing fully into battery :banghead:

Got the scope mount on, but the ARMS #5 doesn't fit. What is it with me and rifles? Good news is the HK guy said it's sighted in at the factory.

I got the scope on there. In the words of Johnny Cash, "So I drilled the Weaver rail out so the ARMS #22 Low rings would fit, with a little bit of help from an a-daptor kit" (Dremel).

'Member what I was saying about the differences between sporting and military rifles? One difference I forgot to mention is that while military-type rifles can usually be stripped and reassembled without tools, sporters rarely can. ;)

You'd think somebody would MAKE a "sporter" rifle that could be easily stripped without tools. If nothing else, it's convenient.
