A friend has a Marlin M336 in .35 Remington, which he prefers to .30/30. I suspect it's at least 20 years old.

It will feed a round or two from the tubular magazine, but if he loads more, it misfeeds and jams the action.

Anyone here had that happen? What seems to be the problem?

I'm advising him to send the rifle to Marlin, as I don't trust any local gunsmiths other than those who tend to have backlogs of work that require the customer to wait for weeks, if not months.

I don't have a Marlin 336, but I had a similar problem with my Marlin 30A. There is one screw on the "loading port" side that is pointed out in the instructions.."Keep this screw Tight".

Don't know if that applies to your friends 336, but it may be worth a look.

foghornl-

Thanks. The M30A is just an econo M336, with a cheaper stock, so this may be good to know. The guy is a gun writer, and I'd think he'd know to check his screws, but I'll tell him. Sometimes, the most obvious things are the ones that slip by us...
