I've killed several deer with a Ruger M77 in .22-250, but I don't recommend it. Back in the 1970's Gates Co. NC (where some of the best deer hunting in the South is found) had a regulation stating that deer rifles had to be .22 caliber. I know it doesn't make much sense, but that's what it was.
I have had 55 grain rounds hit and blow up on the outside of the hide, cutting all the hair off in an area the size of an orange. I've had a bullet make a hole in one the size of your fist, and only that deep. I've had bullets penetrate the entire width of the deer and stop under the hide on the other side, just like other rounds would do. In other words, there is no telling what a small bullet at nearly 4K fps will do. Within a couple years Gates Co. changed their regulation and deer hunting greating improved for everyone with .243's, .270's, etc.
I know you can kill a deer with a .22-250, but from my experience it should never be a hunter's first choice, if you have choices. Just my opinion...

lots of roe deer are shot in Scotland with .22 cf rifles including the .22-250. one of the big problems is that a lot of guys use varminting bullets in them and drive them really fast. If loaded with a 60 gr partition it would be a far better proposition. i also think that this is a very borderline round for deer use and bigger calibres should be used if possible.
