Hello

This is a photo of my.38 Special S&W Model 10-5 revolver. Do I have the correct stocks/grips? The stocks shown in the photo were bought a couple months ago, so they are not original to the revolver. From what I have heard the "Diamond" stocks were discontinued circa 1968. Also heard that any Model 10 with a D prefix in the number was made in 1968 or later.

The stocks that were on the revolver were not Diamond stocks. I have a gut feeling they were earlier replacements as they do not have any numbers on them. The only markings in the stocks are "K" for K-frame.
The revolvers number is C875XXX, what I could find out is that this revolver was made circa 1966 or 1967. So, what I could tell is, I think this revolver should have had Diamond stocks originaly, did I get that right?
Thanks
Mark

The "C" series of serial numbers started at C 1 in 1948 and ended at C 999999 in 1967. Your serial number (C 875,xxx) is toward the end of the series, and was probably made during the middle/latter 1960's. To be more specific you would need to obtain a historical letter from the factory, and this would require among other things, a $50.00 research fee.

The so-called "diamond stocks" of the pattern you have were used as late as 1967, so they could - at least in theory - be correct for the gun.

Thank you for responding. I do intend to obtain a letter from Smith & Wesson sometime in the near future. From what little research I have done it seems that my revolver is just at the very end of the period of the "Diamond Stocks".

I came across the "Diamond" stocks at an antique store of all places, they were in decent shape and I paid $18(US) for them. I'm not sure if I got a decent price or not, but glad I bought them. I just like the look of them, actually I like the look of the older "Service" stocks as well, the earlier shorter versions.

Thanks again
Mark
