I bought this about an hour ago for $150. It's a 5 shot, 3 inch barrel, without the internal lock. It doesn't have a model number listed anywhere on it that I noticed. The serial number is LA5726XX.

I don't know anything about these models, but figured for $150 it's still a good deal. Honestly, I don't like taurus in general, but this one seems to be in great shape, and actually looks like a S&W to me.

Any idea on how old it is? Can I shoot +P ammo in it (not actually sure if anyone even makes high pressure .44spcl.)? Are these guns fairly reliable? Accurate? How much do these usually sell for?

My dad's going to pick up a box of ammo for it right now, but I won't shoot it till we get some dry weather again (which means not until July most likely).

I've got several other handguns that I bought for conceal carry when I finally get around to getting my permit, so I don't really plan on packing this thing anywhere or shooting it often, but what's a good SD round for .44 special?
Thanks.

It was posted in the local newspaper's online classifieds. If it had already been in the printed ads, someone else would've beaten me to it. I got lucky this time though, because usually all the good deals are snapped by other people before I even get a chance.

I think you got a real deal. My favorite DA revolver is a stainless 4" Taurus 431, a fixed sight version of your gun, which is a 441. Model number should be stamped on the frame, under the crane. I got mine in the late '80s; yours is a little older than mine. I put in a Wolff spring kit and never a hiccup in about 20 years since. I like Glaser Safety Slugs, Winchester Silvertips, and Speer Gold Dots - the flying ashtrays.

You don't need +P ammo for a .44spl. Silvertips, or Gold Dots will take care of any social duties you may have.

Thanks for the replies, but it doesn't matter now. My dad came back from the store without ammo (they were sold out of everything but cowboy loads), and kept telling me how much he liked my new taurus. Since the main reason I even bought it was the low price, I offered to give him the taurus and $300 cash for his S&W model 29, and he went for it, so it's been a good day.

Model 441, Great gun, accurate and very serviceable, even better, a very good price. I really like mine.
