The Russians tried several versions of the Maxim with parts made out of aluminium alloy to save weight in aircraft guns up to WW2, but they found that they wouldn't last long enough to be worthwhile; they would stretch and crack after only a short time, and then the entire gun would have to be replaced.

That looks like steel and brass to me. Where is the aluminum?
