It is known that politicians routinely hit 'delete' on digital "documents" of this sort, because

a) they know just how easy and effortless it is to hit the "Sign this petition" button.

b) they know some folks can't help themselves and hit the "Sign this petition" button multiple times per day, thinking "they'll make a difference".

If you really want to 'do something', you'll print out that petition and ink sign it and mail it to your congresscritters. Better yet, print it out and get your neighbors, fellow VFW / American Legion / Moose club / Kiwanis members, etc to sign it before you send it. Politicians love paper mail, and a long list of actual signatures (not electronic dots) will really get their attention.

Mail them or at the least, pick up the phone and call them.

Slacktivism.

Write a real letter or circulate a real petition.

Slacktivism.
That is a fine word for this phenomena.

It almost reminds me of a plot thought out by the other side: Make folks think they're 'doing something', by just clicking a button on a web page. Mr. or Mrs. ButtonClicker sits back, enjoying the feeling of a 'job well done', when actually, they've done nothing at all, and since they've clicked the button, will not do anything further. . . .

And that's why those online petitions go straight into the junk mail folder - if they're even delivered at all.

That would be an incorrect assumption. The press picked up on the Open Carry petition because so many people had signed it. It will be coming up this year in the Legistlature, something that wouldn't have happened otherwise.

It has also served the purpose to notify the involved that we will be making a stand this session to try to get Open Carry passed, and people like us then right in and put the pressure on as best we can.

Thanks mbt2001, try everything, mail, email, petitions (online & paper), phone calls. Lets all be the glass is half full, not that it is half empty.

Attitudes like that and we have already lost the battle- oh yea enjoy Obamanation and Hillary as our secretary of state.

Attacking in concert is more effective that one offing it.

It's being rumored that the open carry bill will be submitted requiring a license. If you're in Texas and support 2nd Amendment rights, call your reps and senators to support unlicensed open carry.
