Encoreman November 12, 2008, 09:30 PM Hi, I bought a gun on gunbroker and the seller didn't list shipping charges, he isn't a ffl holder and said it would cost $83 to overnight, which btw I don't care about overnight. I think this is very excessive, what should I do, I don't want to mess up my A+ rating. Thanks Mac

bragood November 12, 2008, 09:39 PM Ask him why its that much? He shouldnt need a ffl to ship it to yours and $83 for shipping is a little steep. Was there a prearrange shipping price?
Encoreman November 12, 2008, 10:13 PM No there wasn't any pre arranged price. I bought it using the "buy now" because I won't be near a computer to bid for a few days. I can buy a new one when I put the shipping and paying ffl his fee. Oh well that is what I get for being in a hurry. Mac
dpart77 November 12, 2008, 10:25 PM You are getting screwed. Ask him why it is so much.
gazpacho November 13, 2008, 03:24 AM If he is shipping it across state lines, have him send it to a local FFL. I really don't know the laws involved, but I think interstate shipping of firearms (non-FFL) is high up bon t4he list of NO-NOs.
WardenWolf November 13, 2008, 03:31 AM Kindly inform him that ground shipping is requested and that the firearm needs to be shipped to an FFL.
This is why I don't buy unless the terms of shipping are clearly stated in the auction. This guy is a SCAMMER.
FLoppyTOE November 13, 2008, 12:24 PM Shister for sure.
WC145 November 13, 2008, 02:45 PM It has to be sent to an FFL and you will have to fill out a 4473 and go through a NICS check, he can't just send it directly to you.
I think some of you are jumping to conclusions about the price. If it is a handgun the major carriers (except USPS) require it go overnight and it's gotten quite expensive. I looked into sending a pistol to a gunsmith and it was going to be over $60 to go overnight from Maine to Pennsylvania, each way, and that was having my local gun shop ship it on their account. I ended up having them send it priority mail for me and it was about $15 and the gunsmith returned it the same way.
Long guns can be sent regular ground via UPS and FEDEX but still have to go to an FFL.
DoubleTapDrew November 13, 2008, 03:26 PM Sounds like he added in a FFL transfer fee (which he doesn't have to pay), NICS fee (which he doesn't have to pay), and his lunch (which is his responsibility).
If he dings your feedback do the same for his and note how much he wanted for shipping. He won't be able to sell much after that.
Quoheleth November 13, 2008, 07:25 PM Mac,
You're getting a horse whipping here. And now you're stuck...backing out of a "BUY NOW" deal on GB will sure put a bucket of water on your A+ rating. Sounds like your best bet is to talk with the guy - get a phone number and call him, not email. Emails are too easy to either ignore or be snooty. Something about a voice-to-voice conversation seems to help.
If that doesn't work, tell him your local FFL will only accept from an FFL. Do a little homework and find a dealer for him to use that will a) charge a reasonable fee and b) use the post office. USPS fees are very reasonable compared to FedEx - about 1/2 price.
And if that still doesn't work, use the power of the pen and put your concerns in his review page.
Jon
