The photo by Journal Times photographer Greg Shaver showed Racine Police Officer Vic Cera stretched flat on the ice of the Root River using a dog pole to snare Cory, an errant collie who had plunged into the river's icy waters and was unable to get out.
a Waco woman wrote to "commend the officer for such a humanitarian act toward one of God's creatures."
