Hey, there.
Although currently back in my home state of Vermont, I lived in and around Great Falls for about 20 years. Give me another few, and I'll be back out there!
Our place is between Belt and Centerville, probably 15 miles as the crow flies SE of Great Falls. I say 'our place' cause we my wife and I own 37 acres (and buying more).
Been out your way numerous times.

Born and raised on a working cattle ranch in the Kalispell area. Doing penance in Kalifornia, but will return to Big Sky country soon. RKBA!:p
Now if we can keep more riff-raff like Ted Turner out of Montana, it will be a better state. A few more decent people doesn't hurt, but too many transplanted, wannabe country folk urbanites bring their baggage with them. No Montana town needs an opera house or a Starbucks!:cuss:

Kalispell, MT :) The town and valley bottom has to many people but there is tons of public land to go hunt.:)

Amen, everyone from The High Road is welcome.;) I'm tired of people who buy themselves 2 or 3 acres and buy one horse and three chickens and then call themselves Montana Ranchers.:banghead:
Yes I know this thread is 5 years old but I figured it is better than starting a new thread.

Grew up in Anaconda . . . go back several times a year. Montana by birth, blood, desire, & preference; Washington by work location. Ain't many peaks around that locale or the Pintlar that I ain't set foot on & lots of elk I haven't scared yet . . . miss the Big Sky, where men are men and cute sheep are a mite skittish . . .

I've taken a few mulies near Lewistown long ago, also did some pheasant hunting near Fort Benton. Taken a few elk down by Dillon.

Helena here. We hunt over in Two Dot every year.
How are the prairie rats out there?

yikes! an old post comes back up!
we've moved twice since this original post ~ to sand coulee/stockett near grerat falls at the end of 2003, and then back to my hometown of chinook, montana (hopefully to stay) near havre in 2005.
still in montana, hopefully forever ~ other places are nice, but they just aren't the same, are they?

You ARE correct, and I envy you . . . my return is coming. Lots of history, wide-open space, friendly people, and outdoors-oriented opportunities in abundance (not to mention the memories of growing-up under The Big Sky).

Been in the phillips county area most of my life. Some of the finest hunting and fishing opportunities are just outside my door. :)

My Mom's family is from Kalispell area. Dad worked on the Hungry Horse Dam project in 1950's.
My brother & me worked as timber estimators for Forest Service two summers back in 70's but I never was a fulltime resident of Montana.
I guided hunters for Jack A. of Worldwide Outfitters for several years. Had some great times based in both Broadus and Ft. Peck Reservoir region.

100 miles north of Billings on Hwy.2 is a town called Winnet. They have it all. Check out www.tchunting.com. Been there and going back.

Part time in MT (White Sulphur Spgs) for thirteen years, and will be full timer in March '09. Looks like great hunting and fishing right out the door on Kings Hill.

White Sulfur Springs is a great area - particularly of you like wind. We've been looking at property out that way for retirement. Helena is getting too big. There is some absolutely first class white tail and mulie hunting out there.

I remember hunting mulies near White Sulphur Springs as a kid . . . it was a 2-deer area then & from the numbers seen that was well-justified. Didn't live there, but there are many fond memories of hunts in that area. Harvested my 1st deer there at 10 (and learned after much exertion that they drag much easier from the front end than the rear) . . . :banghead::what:
