K-31 bought

Woohoo. Just finished the paper work on my K-31. $140 from Big-5. Beech stock, with a lot of dings and discoloration. However, the bluing is excellent, close to 100% on most parts, except for the very end of the barrel. The bolt is like sliding teflon coated stainless steel across a buttered monkey. Compared next to a Remington 700 (which was more than 3 times the price), there was NO comparison. It felt like the 700's bolt was sliding over sand paper. Every thing was as it was supposed to be. The stock will clean up nicely, if I should decide to do so. Still 11 days till I can pick it up, though, so don't look for a range report till about early October. I was surprised that I had to pay $20 for a background check fee, and that I had to pay $10 for a trigger lock. I have about 5 of those things lying around  . From my unfired impressions, I have to say one thing to anyone pondering these rifles: GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND BUY ONE!! These aren't going to be around forever, so get on the phone ASAP.

Congratulations! Now you have time to order some ammo before you pick up the rifle. Graf and Sons should have their brass by now, too.
You probably already know about these two Swiss rifle forums, but here are the links just in case:

Just ordered a Darrel mount for mine and got a used Leopold 2x for it. Should be awesome for target shooting and (time permitting) hunting next spring.

i think so, too. how many bakersfield members do we have?

Not a whole lot, but we don't need big numbers for a day of shooting. Off the top of my head, there's the 3 of us (you, Andrew Wyatt, me), plus El Rojo. There's a group out in the desert (Mauserlady) we might hook up with.
Heck, I drove 2 hours for a shoot with 3 other THR members a while back, so 3 or 4 for a local shoot is plenty.
When's the SWAT match?

I'm new here.
My Dad got a call from Grafs today and Jeff told him that the brass is on the ship right now and will be ready for buyers within two weeks at the most.
We use RUAG brass, but Dad did the runout on the Graf brass last year and it's really very good brass. MUCH better than INDEP and better than Norma too.
Cool place you guys have here! Are there any girl members?
PS: My Dad is the one who makes the clamp-on scope mounts for the k31s and the new Diopter sights for them too.

I have looked at the Swiss K-31s and am very interested in them. Who currently has them for the best quality/price? I just received my C&R license and I'm itching to use it to purchase one of these fine rifles. Also, did someone mention that they made a scope mount for these? If so, please let me know where it may be purchased. Also, if anyone has any information regarding good boxer primeable brass, and load recipes for this round, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much, Matt Dillon:confused:

Matthew, if you go to http://www.swissrifles.com/sr/pierre/data.html you'll find all of my Dad's load data. Brownell's has the mounts, but I bet Dad would sell you one if you ask him. All of his accurizing information is htere too.
Grafs will have the brass very soon. FGS has rifles and so does Simpsons.

Between 1911sr's dad, Darrell, and Mojo, there are about as many sight options for the K-31 as there are for the Garand--maybe more. The rifle prices are outrageously low right now. Why I'm not sure. I think people are afraid of straight pulls and don't understand the cartridge.
The 7.5 Swiss functions just like a match-grade .308--or maybe a .308 Ackley Improved since the shoulder angle is sharper. This is amazing since the 7.5 is one of the original smokeless powder cartridges from the late 1880's. It's a rare case of perfection the first time.
With new Graff & sons brass on the way and so many extremely high-quality add-ons, this is the time to buy.

1911sr, I found F.G.S. How about a Web address for Simpsons, please?
[EDIT: Wow! It's been a LONG day. I asked you this same question in another thread...]

Ummm, that link gave me a U.K. site with .22 cal and air rifles. What am I missing?
And Chugach, when I searched a couple of days ago, I couldn't find either dealer. What's your link for F.G.S., please?

Congradualtion on your K-31 rifle ,it is one of the finest rifle out there , Just don't do like I did last week ,I accidentally put a .308 Winchester in my K-31 chamber and fire it .I got a lot of smoke blow back to my face but the rifle is okay.Make sure you keep the .308 ammo away for this 7.5 Swiss they look almost like a twin. The gun did not damage so the Swiss rifle is plenty strong.

I'll be buying a K-31 on Friday from SOG, but I have a question: where can I get a good deal for ammo? SOG has about the cheapest price I've found, at $24 for 60 rounds. That's kind of ouchie.

Hi, Demise! Graf & SOns has loaded cartridges. They're also bringing in a load of new brass. Dad says it should be here in two weeks. You do reload, no?

Hello Demise, one of the two Swiss forums that are posted in this thread has a deal on ammo from www.dansammo.com , I think. About $180 for a case of 480 rounds.
Expensive, but still a great deal on match-grade ammo.
You can also reload using common 30-cal bullets (.308) and the brass from Graf & Sons.

Thanks for the info guys. :)
Um, no I actually don't reload. I guess I should be embarassed. :) Since my gun collection is growing exponentially, I guess I should seriously consider reloading.

Yup, Demise, you need to reload. If you do, your reloaded 7.5 Swiss ammo will cost you about the same as reloaded .308 ammo. Which, in my case, is under $6 per 20, using some pretty good bullets.

I forget to mention that you should keep the Swiss match G-11 brass because you can convert them in to boxer prime case. I drill the hole right where the firing pin strike the primer and then plied the spend primer out and continue to drill the hole in the primer pocket to make a flash hole . This primer pocket will be bigger than US primer so I use piece of paper to cover the primer pocket before I prime the case. So far I load this is case about 4 times already and it still work . This Swiss rifle also quite accurate with cast bullet . Now $180 for 480 rounds doesn't seem so bad if that 480 brass can be convert to boxer prime. You have got to start reload this beauty soon.

Hi, Sandy! Actually, the GP11 isn't match. Swiss match cartridges only came out last year and they're boxer. The maker is RUAG, the people who own the original factory.
The GP11 is the issue cartridge that began in 1911 and has been used in the 1911sr, the k11, the k31, the zfk3155 and the PE57. All of them use the GP11.
The only match brass for the 7.5 Swiss is from RUAG itself, and it is available as both brass and loaded cartridges, but so is the new brass from Grafs and Dad says his runout on that brass last summer shows that its every bit as good as RUAG. We have many thousands of Norma and RUAG brass and cases of GP11, but we only shoot the GP11 in the PE57s cuz our own loads shoot better in the SRs, the k31s and the zfk3155s.
But, guess what. We seldom shoot the PE57s or AMTs cuz its MUCH more fun to shoot the other Swiss rifles. I love my 1911sr.

1911sr sorry for the incorrect information , so the G11 is not match but it is berdan prime? and RUAG is match ammo and boxer prime? Where can I obtain the RUAG brass? Graf and son still out of 7.5 brass as well as Huntington (I still waiting for 7.7 x58 that was suppose to be here in August) .

I finally got my K31. It's a beauty! The metal is in perfect shape. The receiver looks almost new, and the only real wearing of the blue is on the bottom of the magazine. The stock is in really good shape too.
I do have another question though: where can I find out what the manufacture date was? swissrifles.com gives a range, but not any specifics. The serial of my rifle is 585xxx.

Like it a lot. Got it from Big-5 the other day, and the more I examine it the more I marvel at the simplicity and beauty of its design. The bolt is so smooth, it's incredible. Will be taking it to the range saturday on a Boy Scout shoot. Just might let some of the scouts shoot it...They could use a break from rimfires and 28 gauges....
