Just received my NYS full carry permit

Picked up the application on July 23rd - $20
Finally collected all of my character references and was ready to subit my paperwork on August 25th.
Was informed on August 25th of a two week wait for an appointment.
Submitted my application on Sept. 10th. - $105
Received notice that my permit was available for pickup Nov. 14th - $5
Now they tell me that when I buy a handgun and submit the receipt for a coupon, it will take 3-4 weeks for the judge to sign off on it and I can pick it up.
All in all, 62 days for processing is so much better than I expected.
;)

WOW, not many reasons to enjoy living in Indiana but our 2nd amendment protection sure is one of them.

Congrats, I got mine 59 days from my date of application. It sucks you are in a county where you need a judge to sign off on purchases.
I'm in niagara county (VERY VERY 2nd ammend friendly) all I have to do is give the seller my coupon and walk out with the gun! I picked up a 1925 S&W M&P 4th change .38 last week. The whole transaction took ~20 minutes.

it's crazy that our constitutional right is enforced 39,000 different ways
plus, whats the point of a judge signing my coupon when he already had to sign off on my permit which allows me to own firearms??
it can't be more than just a way to get money, so lets cut out the BS and tell me where to send the check!

The one good thing about living in NYS is the great deals on handguns (especially revolvers). Since the pool of buyers is small, prices are pretty good. Plus we have some pretty decent gun shows. Where in NYS are you located?

it is a nightmare to get a permit in NY. Thank god i'm in one of the easiest counties to get it in. in my county it is lifetime though, which is good.
oh, and in NY, you need a permit just to TOUCH a gun. You literally can not even handle one without it.

I also live in Niagara County. I wont be 21 till july. But Im hoping to have all the paper filled out so I can get the ball rolling right away. As far as buying a rifle or shotgun... No... Dont need a permit. But like agent-j said you have to have a permit to even touch a handgun.

Congratulations Agent -J , My County is otsego and i have a full carry also , but i do want to warn you that some municapalities dont give a fig . If you get stoped for a minor infraction they let you know that they dont like it when you are in their jurisdiction . You can carry ...and be legal ..but some just dont like it . If you try to tell them your legal and you have the right , they can still make it difficult for you . Just dont be a show off and keep if conceled . Good luck happy shooting .

The biggest problem in NY is not the process of getting the permit...its that EVERY county has a DIFFERENT PROCESS/RULES!
90% of NY is pretty much pro 2nd ammend...its only when you get close to New York City that it gets bad...real real bad!

NYC should just secede from the rest of NY and stop F'ing it up for the rest of us.

I agree 1000%! Upstate NY has more in common with PA than we do with our downstate brethren;)

New Hampshire is the easiest place to get a CCW :)
Walk into sherriffs office, fill out paperwork, pay fee, get permit.
Same day.
Don't even have to register the weapon you're carrying :)
I do find it odd that you only require a State BG check for a handgun, but a Federal for a rifle/shotgun in NH though..

I use to live in Monroe County and it took me 4 months to get my CHL back in 1983. When I moved to Oregon (Orygun) it took 3 weeks. I had to surrender my NYS permit when I moved out of state. I am glad you got your permit ok.

Kudos to you for being willing to jump through all those hoops. Most people aren't willing to go to that much trouble, and that's just what the tyrants want. It's a shame that it's so difficult and expensive to get a permit in your state.
How long is it good for? Four years? That's expensive for a permit that's going to need renewed in a relatively short time!
Heck, my lifetime Indiana permit cost about the same, and I thought it was expensive.

You should celebrate by going to a bar with your pistol concealed... because that's legal to do in NYS, but for some stupid reason illegal in most of the other states with CCW :(

Do they still measure the stack of $50 bills by the inch or do they count them?

long island / westchester county permits have to be renewed every 4-5 years or so.
apparently they can't measure them by the inch because NYS IS BROKE.

If they used as much red tape licensing automobile drivers as they did concealed carry permits, just think how few people on the road would be legally driving.

When I lived on Long Island, It took me 6 months ot be approved for a pistol permit.
After retiring from the LIRR I moved here to South Carolina. Here it took a couple of months to get a full carry conceal permit. No hassel, and no BS, and just about every body carriess a gun.

PA is much like NH in most Counties.
The only 2 States where you actually have 2nd Amendment right are Alaska and Vermont. Those are the only 2 States you don't need permission and a license to avail yourself of your 2A rights. Why do we need a license to be allowed to use our 2A rights? You don't need a license to use your 1st, 4th, 5th or other rights Affirmed by the Bill of Rights so why do we need a piece of paper from the Government to be allowed to use our 2A rights? It's just not American I tell ya!!!

You can say that again! I don't recall the specifics, but the last time I was there, I was really tempted to have one or three shipped to my FFL out here in SD. I don't recall if it was possible to do it without going through all that paperwork, though. Probably not, otherwise I'd have gotten a nicely customized BHP for $475. :P
